What does this team do?
This role sits within the Risk and Controls Consulting persona. For a reminder, please follow the link to the website: Early Careers Consulting | Deloitte UK.
Finance Transformation (FT) is a set of offerings within the Technology and Transformation team, that assist finance executives with assessing their finance strategy. We help clients design and implement changes that improve the overall value and effectiveness of their finance function.
In Controls Advisory, we assist organisations in understanding risks associated with their end-to-end processes, including both automated and manual processes, and their IT landscape. We offer a comprehensive suite of services, including controls framework design, next generation controls operating model re-design, controls culture enhancement and controls automation, including the use of AI. In addition, we support management to gain assurance on the operation of their control frameworks. You will collaborate with clients, business and finance controls teams, and technology risk specialists to define their control requirements and help them unlock their full potential. You will be focused on the Business Process area of Controls Advisory.
What skills and academic qualifications do I need?
You'll need to have obtained or be studying towards a minimum 2:1 in any degree discipline and have graduated by September 2027 for the Autumn 2027 intake.
We have identified 10 core skills that are essential to all our roles in Early Careers. To learn more about these skills and their detailed descriptions, please visit the 'Discover What We Look For' section in our Candidate Zone.
What kind of work will I do?
As a member of a multi-disciplinary team, your role will typically involve the design, implementation and assessment of business process controls for diverse clients across various industries. You will gain an understanding of best practices and key technologies such as AI and then apply this to drive improvements throughout the control lifecycle from assessing risks to implementing, monitoring and assessing controls. This includes but is not limited to:
- Risk Assessment: Documenting the current state and identifying and assessing key risks.
- Control Design & Implementation: Designing and embedding controls to mitigate identified risks and ensure compliance with internal policies, legislation, and regulatory requirements, including remediation.
- Monitoring: testing the operational effectiveness of key controls and assessing the impact of any control deficiencies identified.
- Change Management & Risk Mitigation: Delivering impactful change initiatives to enable effective risk management and foster a robust controls culture.
- Technological Advancement: Focusing on cutting-edge technologies such as AI and Cloud Computing.
- Stakeholder Communication: Managing key risks and issues, proactively communicating with internal management and client stakeholders as needed.
Where will I work?
At Deloitte we recognise how important face-to-face interaction is for your development in a new role. We also understand that our people need flexibility, which is why we operate a hybrid system, with a combination of office and home working. If you're in a client-facing role, you might be expected to attend client sites on certain days, while your meetings will be a mix of online and in-person events. Please note your final assessment and induction will also be in-person, to give you the opportunity to network and build relationships.
All our workspaces are accessible, however, if you require further flexibility due to a health condition or caring responsibilities, please discuss this with our team. You can find further information on our family friendly, flexible working here.
How will I develop?
Given Control Advisory's breadth of services, you will have opportunities to take part in a wide variety of work, finding new environments to grow and develop. Learning and development will also be delivered as part of a comprehensive training programme with dedicated sessions taking place at regular intervals, as well as independent training encouraged through our Learning portal.
The training may include (but is not limited to):
- Controls Advisory competencies and knowledge (supplemented through project work) across a wide array of subjects, such as risk management, change transformation and assurance, and programme management
- You will be required to undertake the ICAEW Chartered Accountant qualification (ACA).
- Consulting business skills such as stakeholder management, effective communication, presentation, and business writing
- Financial support to get industry certifications relevant to your area of work.
