Skills
The role
We are recruiting a Renewables Technical Sales/Category Manager to join the team at Myers Building & Timber Supplies.
Help us create something new at Myers. We're developing a renewables department at our Head Office site in Huddersfield, and we're looking for an experienced specialist to help shape it from the start.
You'll have a real say in the products we offer, the suppliers we work with and the way we support customers. From choosing the opening range and helping create the centre to winning the first orders, your input will be key.
This is a varied role combining technical sales with category management. You'll become the renewables contact for our branch network, work directly with customers and help our colleagues build their knowledge. It's an exciting opportunity to develop a new offer with the support of the wider Myers team.
What you will be doing
- Help establish the Huddersfield renewables centre, including displays, demonstration products, stock and the service we provide to customers.
- Shape and source the range, from heat pumps, solar PV and battery storage to the associated products customers need to complete their projects.
- Build supplier relationships whilst working with our purchasing team and buying group, to secure competitive terms, the right stock range and access to relevant technical support.
- Give branches clear technical and pricing support, helping colleagues select products, prepare quotations and win orders.
- Develop customer relationships and sell directly when required, including customer meetings and site visits. Bring in manufacturer and design expertise where needed.
- Source and deliver training for Myers colleagues, arrange supplier demonstrations and help make renewables easier to understand and sell.
- Stay up to date with Building Regulations, the Future Homes Standard and product developments, translating these into useful advice and sales opportunities.
- Take ownership of category sales and margin performance, working with colleagues on stock, pricing, marketing and the successful launch of the new offer.
What you will get
- £55,000 to £65,000 per year, depending on experience, and a company vehicle.
- The opportunity to shape a new department and see the results of your ideas, with support from our buying, branch and sales teams.
- Typical hours of 8.00 am to 5.00 pm, Monday to Friday.
- 33+ days' holiday, including a day off for your birthday, increasing with service; a buy and sell holiday scheme; and a Christmas and New Year shutdown.
- Company pension, staff discounts and ongoing training and career development.
- 24/7 Employee Assistance Programme, free physiotherapy when needed, sick pay, free on-site parking, and uniform and PPE.
What we are looking for
Renewables experience is essential. You may currently work for a specialist merchant, distributor, manufacturer or installer. We're interested in the technical expertise, customer relationships and commercial experience you can bring to Myers.
- A proven background in renewables technical sales, technical support or product/category management, with experience of growing sales and supporting customers.
- Strong knowledge of renewable heating or solar PV and battery storage, with the confidence to help develop a wider product range and coordinate specialist input.
- A good understanding of relevant Building Regulations and the Future Homes Standard, and the ability to explain what they mean for customers and colleagues.
- Experience working with suppliers, sourcing products and preparing accurate, competitive quotations while protecting margin.
- An approachable communicator who enjoys solving problems, sharing knowledge and building lasting relationships.
- The drive and initiative required to help establish a new department, manage competing priorities and turn plans into action.
- Confidence using Excel and business systems, and the ability to travel to branches, suppliers, customers and sites.
Experience launching a new range or centre, working with buying groups, or delivering product training would be an advantage. Relevant technical or renewables qualifications are also welcome.
Help build the Myers renewables centre
If you know renewables and have the drive and ambition to develop and grow a new department, we'd like to hear from you. Bring your experience and ideas to Myers and help us create a centre that customers and colleagues can rely on.
