Full details: UCL Rewards and Benefits.
You will have experience producing communication materials for both print and digital channels, alongside a strong understanding of publishing processes and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously. You will be confident using publishing software, including Adobe InDesign, Photoshop and Illustrator, and have knowledge of web publishing through content management systems and HTML.
With an understanding of UK higher education and student recruitment, you will appreciate the importance of providing prospective students with clear, accurate and engaging information. You will also understand the implications of Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) advice and guidance for student recruitment communications and be able to apply relevant requirements to publication content.
An excellent communicator and collaborative team player, you will be confident building relationships with colleagues across a complex organisation, as well as external suppliers and partners. You will bring exceptional writing, editing and proofreading skills, with a keen eye for detail and the ability to adapt messages to different audiences while maintaining a consistent brand voice.
You will be highly organised, able to prioritise competing demands and deliver work to tight deadlines without compromising quality. With the initiative to identify opportunities for improvement and the confidence to work independently, you will be comfortable developing guidance, sharing best practice and supporting colleagues to produce effective content.
You will demonstrate a commitment to inclusive working, constructive feedback and collaboration across the wider UCL community, in line with UCL's Ways of Working. A degree or equivalent qualification is required. Experience working with CRM systems would be an advantage.
We are looking for a creative, organised and detail-oriented Senior Publications Officer to lead the production and delivery of UCL's student recruitment publications and editorial content across print and digital channels. From our undergraduate and postgraduate prospectuses to a range of marketing materials, you will help ensure prospective students have access to engaging, accurate and accessible information about studying at UCL.
You will manage the end-to-end publication process, coordinating content development, design, copywriting, proofreading, photography and external suppliers to deliver high-quality publications on time and within budget. Working collaboratively with colleagues across faculties and central departments, you will develop strong stakeholder relationships, provide guidance on editorial standards and brand guidelines, and support the implementation of effective publication processes.
You will also play a key role in ensuring that student recruitment communications meet relevant regulatory requirements, including Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) guidance, while maintaining consistency with UCL's house style and brand. By reviewing existing processes, monitoring sector best practice and identifying opportunities for improvement, you will help ensure our publications remain relevant, engaging and responsive to the needs of prospective students.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced publishing or communications professional to combine creative expertise with project coordination, stakeholder engagement and continuous improvement, making a tangible contribution to student recruitment at one of the world's leading universities.
As an active member of the wider VPEE team, you will also contribute to key university events, including a minimum of two of UCL's three Open Days and four of the 28 graduation ceremonies each year.
Please note, this role is offered on a fixed-term contract basis until end of July 2027 with hybrid working available currently 1-2 days per week onsite at our London King Cross office (subject to change).
UCL is a radically different university. Founded in 1826 in the heart of London, we were the first university in England to welcome students of any religion and the first to welcome women to university education. Today, with more than 50,000 students and 16,000 staff, UCL is one of the world's top 10 universities.
The Vice-President External Engagement (VPEE) team leads communications and marketing activity that strengthens UCL's public profile, reputation and influence, reflecting our excellence in knowledge creation, education and innovation.
Within this dynamic environment, the Marketing team plays an important role in bringing UCL's story to life and engaging prospective students with the opportunities available at our university.
As London's Global University, we know diversity fosters creativity and innovation. We are committed to equality of opportunity, to being fair and inclusive, and to being a place where we all belong.
We particularly encourage applications from candidates underrepresented in UCL's workforce, including those from Black, Asian and ethnic minority backgrounds, disabled people, and - for Grade 9 and 10 roles - women.
