This is an opportunity to join a highly skilled and collaborative laboratory team where quality, innovation and continuous improvement are at the heart of everything we do. Whether you're reviewing complex blood film morphology, performing specialist investigations or helping to maintain our accredited laboratory standards, your expertise will help ensure we continue providing exceptional healthcare to every patient we serve.

A little about the role

As part of our Blood Sciences team, we work closely together to deliver a responsive and reliable diagnostic service that supports patient care across the hospital. Every day brings a variety of challenges, from processing routine samples to investigating more complex cases, making this a role that is both rewarding and intellectually stimulating.

We are passionate about maintaining the highest standards of laboratory practice and creating an environment where colleagues feel supported to share knowledge, develop their skills and contribute to service improvements. As a Biomedical Scientist, you'll work alongside experienced Biomedical Scientists, Senior Biomedical Scientists, Consultants and Pathology leaders who are committed to delivering outstanding results and supporting each other's professional growth.

This role offers the opportunity to take ownership of your work, apply specialist scientific knowledge and make a meaningful contribution to a service that clinicians and patients rely on every day.

What you'll be doing

  • Undertake routine and specialist laboratory techniques in accordance with departmental Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Perform diagnostic testing within Haematology and Blood Transfusion services.
  • Review and interpret blood film morphology to support diagnosis and patient management.
  • Ensure accurate recording and management of data within the laboratory information system.

  • Escalate laboratory concerns appropriately and support effective resolution.
  • Maintain compliance with ISO 15189:2022 standards and quality management requirements.
  • Participate in the out-of-hours and weekend rota.
  • Contribute to service development and continuous quality improvement initiatives.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues to ensure a safe, efficient and effective diagnostic service.
