The role

The Head of Music Engagement oversees Queen Mary's music programme, providing opportunities for students and staff to develop musical skills and participate in ensembles, rehearsals and performances. The postholder manages the Music Scholars programme, consults with students and Queen Mary Students' Union (QMSU), and works with colleagues across the University to strengthen partnerships with external music and cultural organisations and contribute to Queen Mary's wider civic and community engagement ambitions.

About You

Educated to degree level in Music or with an equivalent music college qualification, you will have professional experience as a musician, including teaching and conducting or leading musical groups. You will have experience organising projects and events, working with a range of stakeholders and motivating others to participate in music.

Strong interpersonal and organisational skills are essential, alongside the ability to manage competing priorities, meet deadlines and work independently and collaboratively. You will be confident representing Queen Mary as an ambassador for music and the arts. The role requires flexibility in working hours, including evenings and weekends to support rehearsals and performances.

About the Department

Student Experience is the university's main student support directorate and comprises Library Services, Careers and Employability, Registry Services and Student Wellbeing. Student Wellbeing is made up of the Advice and Counselling Service, the Disability and Dyslexia Service and the Student Life team, which oversees diverse areas such as the Chaplaincy, the Student Health Service, Report and Support and Music.

Student Life plays a key role in coordinating Queen Mary's welcome and induction programme for new and continuing students, working across Faculties and Professional Services and with QMSU to support a joined-up approach to students' transition into and through university. The team also delivers a range of activities and programmes that support student belonging, engagement and the wider student experience.

About Queen Mary

At Queen Mary University of London, we believe that a diversity of ideas helps us achieve the previously unthinkable.

Throughout our history, we've fostered social justice and improved lives through academic excellence. And we continue to live and breathe this spirit today, not because it's simply 'the right thing to do' but for what it helps us achieve and the intellectual brilliance it delivers.

Our reformer heritage informs our conviction that great ideas can and should come from anywhere. It's an approach that has brought results across the globe, from the communities of east London to the favelas of Rio de Janeiro.

We continue to embrace diversity of thought and opinion in everything we do, in the belief that when views collide, disciplines interact, and perspectives intersect, truly original thought takes form.
