The role

The Student Belonging and Transitions Manager develops and delivers activities supporting students' transition, belonging and engagement throughout their university journey, including targeted interventions linked to Queen Mary's Access and Participation Plan (APP). The postholder coordinates Queen Mary's Welcome and Induction programme for new and continuing students and develops year-round transition activities, including peer support and mentoring.

About You

Educated to degree level, you will have experience managing projects or programmes, ideally in education. Excellent organisational, communication and IT skills are essential, alongside the ability to manage competing priorities, meet deadlines and handle complex operational matters. You will be confident working across different areas of an organisation, building productive relationships and influencing others to achieve shared objectives. A collaborative, flexible and proactive approach is important, together with a commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion, and an understanding of the student journey and its key transition points. The role requires flexibility in working hours, including extended hours and weekends during the University's main Welcome periods.

Interviews are expected to be held on 25 or 30 November 2026.

About the Department

Student Experience is the university's main student support directorate and comprises Library Services, Careers and Employability, Registry Services and Student Wellbeing. Student Wellbeing is made up of the Advice and Counselling Service, the Disability and Dyslexia Service and the Student Life team, which oversees diverse areas such as the Chaplaincy, the Student Health Service, Report and Support and Music. Student Life plays a key role in coordinating Queen Mary's welcome and induction programme for new and continuing students, working across Faculties and Professional Services and with QMSU to support a joined-up approach to students' transition into and through university. The team also delivers a range of activities and programmes that support student belonging, engagement and the wider student experience.

About Queen Mary

At Queen Mary University of London, we believe that a diversity of ideas helps us achieve the previously unthinkable.

Throughout our history, we've fostered social justice and improved lives through academic excellence. And we continue to live and breathe this spirit today, not because it's simply 'the right thing to do' but for what it helps us achieve and the intellectual brilliance it delivers.

Our reformer heritage informs our conviction that great ideas can and should come from anywhere. It's an approach that has brought results across the globe, from the communities of east London to the favelas of Rio de Janeiro.

We continue to embrace diversity of thought and opinion in everything we do, in the belief that when views collide, disciplines interact, and perspectives intersect, truly original thought takes form.
