The role

What you'll be doing

A typical day in this role will involve leading the evolution of PMO across Nationwide, shaping services, standards and ways of working that improve how strategic change is governed, assured and delivered. You'll work closely with senior stakeholders to influence priorities, provide challenge and insight, and support decision-making across complex portfolios of change, ensuring investment is aligned with strategic objectives and delivers expected business outcomes.

You'll lead and develop a team of PMO professionals, building capability, setting direction and creating an environment where people can thrive and perform at their best. You'll oversee governance, controls and assurance activities, ensuring programmes operate in line with the Change Framework while proactively identifying and addressing risks, issues and dependencies.

Using performance data and portfolio insight, you'll identify emerging trends, opportunities and areas for intervention, helping leaders maximise delivery performance and business value. You'll also champion innovation, automation and continuous improvement, strengthening the consistency, effectiveness and impact of PMO services across the organisation.

About you

Essential measurable experience

  • Significant experience leading a PMO service across a large, complex portfolio, sub-portfolio or strategic programme, including leadership of PMO teams

  • Proven experience partnering with CIOs, Programme Directors and other senior leaders, providing challenge, advice and decision support that influenced strategic investment, prioritisation or delivery outcomes

  • Demonstrable experience establishing and leading portfolio governance, assurance and control frameworks within complex change environments, including regulatory or compliance oversight

  • Strong track record of translating complex portfolio, programme and financial data into actionable insight, recommendations and reporting for executive decision-making

  • Proven experience driving measurable improvements to PMO capability, services, operating models or ways of working, resulting in increased efficiency, consistency, pace or delivery performance

  • Experience leading and developing high-performing teams, including line management, capability development, coaching and performance management

  • Evidence of shaping PMO strategy, standards or future capability through thought leadership, industry best practice, external networking or the adoption of innovative approaches across a portfolio or organisation

  • A recognised practitioner-level PMO, portfolio, programme or project management qualification (such as P3O, MoP, MSP, PRINCE2 or APM); or equivalent senior-level practical experience leading PMO services across complex change portfolios

Our customer first behaviours put customers and members at the heart of how we work together. They are the set of behaviours that every colleague needs to display, in every role:

• Feel what customers feel - We step into our customers' shoes, using their feedback and insights to empathise with them and to understand their needs, so that every decision we make starts and finishes with our customers in mind
• Say it straight - We are brave in speaking out and saying what we think - we're honest and direct with good intent, openly sharing diverse perspectives to reach the best conclusions and using language everyone can understand
• Push for better - We don't settle for mediocrity, we challenge the status quo, taking responsibility for continuous improvement and personal development
• Get it done - We prioritise what will have the greatest impact, we are decisive, and we take accountability for delivering brilliant customer outcomes

You can strengthen your application by showing how our customer first behaviours resonate with you, and where you may have already demonstrated these.
