The role

What you'll be doing

As a BI Specialist, you'll design, develop, test and maintain Metric Views, Power BI reports, dashboards and semantic models that meet agreed user needs and deliver meaningful insight. Working closely with stakeholders across the business, you'll take time to understand key business questions, clarify requirements and translate them into practical, user-focused BI solutions that support informed decision-making.

You'll use SQL and a range of analytical techniques to explore data, identify trends and explain performance in a clear and accessible way. By applying agreed data definitions, governance controls, accessibility standards and development practices, you'll ensure reporting outputs are trusted, consistent and reusable across the organisation. Working collaboratively with data engineering colleagues, you'll help resolve data quality issues and ensure reporting data is accurate, timely and fit for purpose.

A key part of the role will involve supporting the ongoing simplification and rationalisation of reporting across the organisation. You'll identify opportunities to remove duplication, streamline processes and automate repeatable activities, helping to improve efficiency and create a more consistent reporting landscape. Alongside this, you'll develop clear documentation, user guidance and knowledge-sharing materials that encourage adoption and strengthen self-service capability.

You'll manage your own workload through to completion, proactively identifying risks, dependencies and key decisions, while contributing ideas, peer reviews and continuous improvement initiatives that strengthen the wider BI community. Through collaboration, technical expertise and a focus on delivering value, you'll help ensure colleagues have access to the insight they need to make better business decisions.

Success in this role means delivering high-quality reporting and insight that colleagues trust and rely on to make informed decisions. You'll create reports and dashboards that are intuitive, reliable and aligned to agreed outcomes, quality standards and delivery timescales, enabling stakeholders to confidently use data to understand performance and identify opportunities.

You'll help establish a consistent approach to metrics and definitions, ensuring they are clearly documented, understood by users and applied across reporting solutions. By driving simplification, standardisation and automation, you'll reduce manual effort and duplicated reporting, creating more efficient and sustainable ways of working.

Just as importantly, you'll build strong relationships with stakeholders through clear communication and a collaborative approach. By providing trusted insight and helping users understand the story behind the data, you'll foster confidence in the reporting and analytics capability and support better decision-making across the organisation.

About you

You are a practical BI professional who combines strong technical delivery with curiosity about the business problem. You are comfortable working independently on defined outcomes, seeking support when needed and explaining data clearly to colleagues with different levels of technical knowledge.

Minimum skills and experience:

• Proven hands-on experience designing, developing and supporting Power BI reporting and dashboard solutions in a business environment
• Strong SQL skills, with experience sourcing, transforming and analysing data from multiple sources and systems
• Practical experience of data modelling, KPI and metric definition, and applying data visualisation best practice
• Experience engaging with stakeholders to elicit requirements and translate them into analytical and reporting solutions
• Proven ability to investigate data quality issues, validate outputs and ensure reporting accuracy
• Experience managing the delivery of work independently, from requirements through to implementation and ongoing support
• Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to present insights and explain technical concepts to non-technical audiences
• Experience working collaboratively within a data, analytics or technology team to deliver business outcomes
• Good organisational and prioritisation skills, with ownership of work from requirements through to delivery and support

Our customer first behaviours put customers and members at the heart of how we work together. They are the set of behaviours that every colleague needs to display, in every role:

• Feel what customers feel - We step into our customers' shoes, using their feedback and insights to empathise with them and to understand their needs, so that every decision we make starts and finishes with our customers in mind
• Say it straight - We are brave in speaking out and saying what we think - we're honest and direct with good intent, openly sharing diverse perspectives to reach the best conclusions and using language everyone can understand
• Push for better - We don't settle for mediocrity, we challenge the status quo, taking responsibility for continuous improvement and personal development
• Get it done - We prioritise what will have the greatest impact, we are decisive, and we take accountability for delivering brilliant customer outcomes

You can strengthen your application by showing how our customer first behaviours resonate with you, and where you may have already demonstrated these.
