The role

What you'll be doing

As a Customer Communications Content Lead, you'll play a key role in shaping and delivering customer communications strategies that help Nationwide create more relevant, engaging and effective experiences for our members. You'll lead a team of communication specialists responsible for designing, developing and delivering customer communications across a range of channels, ensuring every interaction supports both customer needs and business objectives.

You'll work closely with colleagues across Marketing, Product, Digital, Data, Technology, Risk and Compliance to deliver communications that are clear, customer-focused and aligned to Nationwide's brand, regulatory and governance standards. Acting as a strategic partner to stakeholders, you'll help define communication approaches, influence priorities and ensure communications are delivered consistently and effectively across customer journeys.

A key focus of the role will be driving the continuous improvement of customer communications through insight, performance analysis and experimentation. You'll use customer feedback, engagement data and business outcomes to identify opportunities for optimisation, helping teams deliver more personalised, timely and impactful communications that improve customer understanding and engagement.

You'll lead the planning and delivery of both marketing and regulatory communications, ensuring appropriate governance, controls and approval processes are in place while balancing customer experience, compliance requirements and commercial objectives. You'll also support major business initiatives, transformation programmes and regulatory changes, ensuring communications are delivered effectively and with minimal customer impact.

As a leader within the function, you'll coach and develop your team, establish best practices and promote a culture of collaboration, innovation and continuous improvement. You'll help build capability across customer communications, championing high standards of content quality, accessibility and effectiveness while creating an environment where people can perform at their best.

Through strong leadership, stakeholder engagement and a passion for customer-centric communication, you'll help shape the future of Nationwide's customer communications capability, delivering better outcomes for customers while supporting the Society's wider strategic ambitions.

About you

For this role, you must have:

  • Demonstrable experience leading the planning, development and delivery of data driven 121 marketing communications for business customers.
  • Experienced, high-quality people manager who is well versed in coaching, training and developing others, helping to build B2B marketing communications capability and consistently applying communications best practice.
  • Excellent stakeholder management and influencing skills, with experience of working collaboratively with business stakeholders, subject matter experts, and third parties to lead the team in developing and delivering high-quality customer communications.
  • Experience in overseeing the development of creative and communications that are rooted in insight, compelling for business customers, and deliver the desired outcomes.
  • Experience delivering customer communications within a regulated, governed or controlled environment, applying approval processes, quality assurance, compliance standards and risk management requirements.
  • Significant experience developing and delivering customer communications or marketing activity within a Business Banking environment, with a strong understanding of the needs, behaviours and servicing requirements of micro and SME business customers.

Our customer first behaviours put customers and members at the heart of how we work together. They are the set of behaviours that every colleague needs to display, in every role:

  • Feel what customers feel - We step into our customers' shoes, using their feedback and insights to empathise with them and to understand their needs, so that every decision we make starts and finishes with our customers in mind

  • Say it straight - We are brave in speaking out and saying what we think - we're honest and direct with good intent, openly sharing diverse perspectives to reach the best conclusions and using language everyone can understand

  • Push for better - We don't settle for mediocrity, we challenge the status quo, taking responsibility for continuous improvement and personal development

  • Get it done - We prioritise what will have the greatest impact, we are decisive, and we take accountability for delivering brilliant customer outcomes

You can strengthen your application by showing how our customer first behaviours resonate with you, and where you may have already demonstrated these.
