The role
Grind is a coffee company that lives in London. Since opening Shoreditch Grind in 2011, we've expanded across London with cafés, coffee trucks and a state-of-the-art coffee roastery.
Our cafes and coffee shops are the beating heart of Grind, they are where it all began. We're a bustling hub in the heart of London's most iconic places, known for serving our specialty coffee and renowned bottomless brunches.
We think coffee can be a force for good. Whether it's through creating the UK's first compostable coffee pods, our plastic-free packaging or carbon-free shipping - we're on a mission to be the world's most sustainable coffee company.
In 2023, we created our charity, the Better Coffee Foundation, to undo the damage done by the global coffee industry - in our first year, we recovered 43 million pods' worth of ocean-bound plastic.
What you'll do
- Welcome customers and create a warm, knowledgeable Grind experience.
- Proactively start conversations and understand what each customer is looking for.
- Build strong knowledge of our coffee machines, blends, pods, subscriptions, accessories and merchandise.
- Confidently demonstrate products and help customers choose the right option for them.
- Recommend relevant add-ons and complementary products to increase basket value.
- Introduce customers to Grind subscriptions and other ways to enjoy Grind at home.
- Work towards sales targets including conversion, average transaction value and add-on sales.
- Keep retail displays stocked, organised and looking their best, supporting replenishment, product availability and smooth day-to-day retail operations.
- Bringing Always Focused, Never Finished to life through constant improvement, fresh thinking and innovation across every touchpoint of the customer journey.
You’ll have.
- Previous experience in retail, hospitality, customer service or sales.
- A natural ability to build rapport and start conversations with customers.
- Confidence recommending products, upselling and asking for the sale.
- A proactive, commercially minded approach with great attention to customer experience.
- An interest in coffee and enthusiasm for becoming an expert in Grind’s products.
Role responsibilities
We’re looking for a confident, customer-focused Seasonal Retail Assistant to join our Battersea truck. This is a sales-led role focused on helping customers discover Grind beyond their daily coffee — from bean to cup and pod machines to beans, pods, subscriptions, accessories and merch. You’ll understand what each customer is looking for, make thoughtful recommendations and spot opportunities to add to their purchase without making it feel like a hard sell.
This role is a 3-month fixed-term contract, with flexibility aligned to our Friday–Sunday opening hours, initially supporting the team during a period of increased seasonal demand. While this is a fixed-term position, there may be opportunities to explore longer-term roles within the business depending on performance and future business needs.
