The role
You will support the delivery and development of the Climate Policy Monitor, taking responsibility for its day-to-day research activities across the data collection and evaluation phases. Working closely with participating law firms, you will coordinate the identification and assessment of relevant climate policy tools, administer and quality-check surveys, and reconcile responses to ensure the accuracy and consistency of research findings.
You will contribute to the development and refinement of research methodologies, including survey instruments and coding procedures, and undertake the collection, analysis and presentation of qualitative and quantitative data. You will also maintain the Monitor's database and research documentation, ensuring that data is managed in accordance with ethical standards and commitments to transparency and open access.
Alongside these responsibilities, you will undertake literature reviews, contribute to academic publications and wider research planning, and share findings with colleagues and research partners. You will also represent the research group at external meetings, seminars and conferences.
About the Blavatnik School of Government
Our vision is of a world better led, a world better served and a world better governed. We are a global school committed to improving the quality of government and public policymaking worldwide, through three routes: teaching current and future leaders; generating research with impact; and engaging with governments and practitioners.
About you
You will hold, or be close to completing, a master's degree or equivalent in a relevant discipline, such as public policy, political science, law, economics or environmental policy. You will have specialist knowledge of climate policy, regulation or governance in at least one sector or jurisdiction, together with the ability to undertake research within an established programme. You will bring strong organisational and data-handling skills, including experience of collecting, structuring and analysing policy, legal or regulatory information, and confidence in managing structured datasets using spreadsheets or databases.
You will have a systematic and thorough approach to research, with excellent attention to detail, the ability to work accurately with complex legal or policy material, and the confidence to manage your own work and meet deadlines. Excellent written and oral communication skills are essential, including the ability to produce publication-quality writing, present research findings at conferences and represent the research group at meetings. You will also be able to work collaboratively with colleagues and research partners and communicate professionally with external contributors, including law firms and subject specialists.
