University of Oxford is hiring for this role in several places. This vacancy is in Oxford.
The research focuses on understanding the Malaria parasite using interactomic and structural methodologies. In this role, you will contribute to a better understanding of how the malaria progresses in its lifecycle and manipulates red blood cells, potentially leading to new therapeutic understanding.
Working as part of the Crook research group, you will contribute to laboratory-based research involving human and mammalian cell lines, including parasites (full training provided), and undertake biochemical assays and sample preparation. You will apply and adapt experimental methods to investigate protein function, analyse scientific data and contribute to the group's wider research activities.
This role will also involve working collaboratively with other researchers, contributing to scientific reports and publications, and sharing research findings through presentations and discussions.
This is a full-time, fixed-term position for up to 18 months. Due to the laboratory-based nature of the research, regular on-site working is required. However, applications from candidates wishing to work part-time of flexible hours will be considered.
Applications are invited for a Research Assistant to join the research group of Dr Oliver Crook within the Department of Chemistry at the University of Oxford, based at the Kavli Institute for Nanoscience Discovery.
You will hold a degree in Biology, Biochemistry, Chemistry, Biotechnology, Pathology, Biomedicine, or related discipline, with experience in cell handling and tissue culture.
You will have the scientific knowledge and practical skills required to contribute to an established research programme, including experience of following and adapting experimental protocols and selecting appropriate methodologies.
You will demonstrate excellent communication skills, with the ability to present research findings clearly. You will be organised, detail-orientated and able to work independently while managing your time effectively to meet project objectives.
Experience of working in Containment Level 2 or 3 laboratories, molecular cloning, protein purification and characterisation, or sample preparation for structural studies or proteomic analysis using LC-MS/MS would be advantageous.
Applications for this vacancy are to be made online. As part of your application, you will be required to upload a supporting statement and CV.
Your supporting statement must explain how you meet each of the selection criteria for the post, using clear examples drawn from skills and experience. Please note that certificates, references and research papers should not be provided at this stage.
