The role

We are seeking a Senior Finance and Assurance Manager to join the Africa Pandemic Sciences Collaborative, a major partnership between the Pandemic Sciences Institute, Science for Africa Foundation and Mastercard Foundation. Funded at over $72 million, the Collaborative supports the next generation of African scientists and researchers to strengthen pandemic preparedness and health systems across the continent.

You will lead the Collaborative's financial management and assurance activities within PSI, overseeing complex budgets, forecasting, donor reporting, audits, compliance and financial risk. Working closely with the Programme Manager and senior partners, you will provide expert financial advice, strengthen controls and governance, and ensure funding is managed effectively and in accordance with University and Mastercard Foundation requirements.

Reporting to the PSI Business Manager, you will manage the finance and assurance team and build strong relationships with colleagues across Oxford, SFA Foundation and Mastercard Foundation. This senior role requires excellent financial leadership, sound professional judgement and the ability to communicate complex financial and assurance matters clearly to senior stakeholders. Regular travel to Africa, up to eight times per year, is required.

It is essential that you are educated to a degree level or to hold equivalent, relevant experience. You must have substantial experience of financial management, assurance, compliance or financial governance within a large, complex, multi-stakeholder programme or comparable environment. Demonstrable experience of providing senior oversight of large and complex budgets, including forecasting, variance analysis, financial risk assessment and the interpretation of management information to support strategic and operational decisions is a must.

Applications for this vacancy should be made online and you will need to upload a supporting statement and CV. Your supporting statement must explain how you meet each of the selection criteria for the post using examples of your skills and experience. Please restrict your documentation to your CV and supporting statement only. Any other documents will be requested at a later date.

This position is offered full time on a fixed term contract for 36 months and is funded by the Mastercard Foundation Collaboration.

Only applications received before 12 midday on Monday 9 November 2026 will be considered. Please quote 189328 on all correspondence.
