The role

To provide administrative assistance to the Education Manager, supporting the Postgraduate Taught (PGT) admissions cycle, and providing on course support throughout the year for the PGT degree programmes in the Department of Politics and International Relations (DPIR).

There are currently two PGT and one PGR Course Coordinators who work closely and collaboratively to ensure the effective running of four MPhil, two MSc and two DPhil programmes. This role will work alongside the existing PGT Course Coordinator with responsibility for graduate admissions and on course arrangements. In particular, this role will provide extra capacity within the team as we work towards the introduction of a new MSc in Politics of Global Challenges in October 2027.

You will be expected to be, or become, familiar with evolving practices across the University and to propose and implement improvements to the delivery of DPIR's postgraduate programmes.

You will provide advice to academic office holders and teaching staff and be expected to develop and maintain key contacts across the collegiate University.

What you'll do

About Us
The Department of Politics and International Relations (DPIR) is one of Oxford's largest and most internationally recognised departments, home to around 90 academic staff and a thriving community of researchers and visitors. Ranked the Number One University in the UK for Politics by The Guardian in 2024, the department delivers world‑class teaching and research supported by experienced Professional Services teams working across Courses, Research, Finance, HR and Communications. We are strongly committed to equality, diversity and inclusion, including work towards an Athena Swan Bronze Award, and are based in the Social Sciences Building on Manor Road alongside Economics, Criminology, Socio‑Legal Studies and the Social Science Library.

About You

The post holder will be an organised and proactive administrator with excellent communication and relationship-building skills. Comfortable managing a varied workload, you will work confidently with students, academic colleagues and external stakeholders to provide high-quality support across the student lifecycle, from admissions and onboarding through to programme delivery and student welfare.

You will have strong attention to detail and experience of managing complex administrative processes, ensuring information is accurate, up to date and delivered in a timely manner. You will be confident coordinating admissions activities, supporting applicants and offer holders, managing student communications, and working collaboratively with colleagues across departments and external services to deliver an excellent student experience.

You will also be skilled at organising events, coordinating teaching-related activities and handling multiple priorities simultaneously. A collaborative approach, commitment to excellent student service, and the ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a wider professional services team will be essential for success in this role.

This is a full-time, permanent position available from 23rd November 2026 or as soon as possible thereafter.

If you have any questions about the role, please contact the DPIR HR Team at vacancies@politics.ox.ac.uk.
