What you'll get

Salary: Grade 7: £39,424 - £47,779 per annum, inclusive of Oxford Weighting, with discretionary range to £51,983. Whilst the role is a grade 7 position, we would be willing to consider candidates with potential but less experience who are seeking a development opportunity, for which an initial appointment would be at grade 6 (£35,681 - £41,636 per annum) with the responsibilities adjusted accordingly. This would be discussed with applicants at interview/appointment where appropriate.

This is an open-ended (externally funded) post, full-time.

The role

We are looking for an experienced Linux & Research Computing Officer to join our IT team and help deliver the computing infrastructure that underpins world-leading physics research.

This is a hands-on, user-focused role for a skilled Linux Systems Administrator and Programmer who enjoys solving complex technical problems and working at the intersection of systems administration, high-performance computing and scientific research.

The postholder will help administer, develop and enhance a substantial Linux estate supporting researchers across the Department, with particular responsibility for research computing infrastructure within Particle Physics. This includes supporting complex computing environments, developing automation and tooling, and ensuring that systems remain reliable, secure and responsive to the needs of the research community. The post offers an opportunity to apply your technical expertise to challenging research computing problems and to make a direct contribution to the infrastructure that enables world-leading scientific discovery.
