The role
We are looking for an experienced Data Business Analyst to support a data-intensive transformation programme, taking requirements from initial business discovery through to detailed design, build and testing.
You will work across the full delivery lifecycle, developing an understanding of business processes and the data underpinning them before translating this into clear, delivery-ready Epics, User Stories and acceptance criteria. You will act as the link between business stakeholders and technical delivery teams, ensuring data requirements are understood, documented and testable.
What you'll do
- Facilitate discovery sessions with Product Owners, business users, process leads and data owners to understand business outcomes, current processes and target ways of working.
- Map how data is created, used and shared across processes and systems, identifying key data entities, sources, consumers, dependencies and manual workarounds.
- Document current-state and target-state processes, data flows and definitions.
- Translate business and data requirements into L2 Epics and detailed L3 User Stories, with clear acceptance criteria and traceability.
- Define and validate data requirements, including business definitions, ownership, attributes, source-to-target mappings, transformation rules and validation criteria.
- Support data profiling and identify data quality, completeness, reconciliation and exception-handling requirements.
- Work with Data Architects, Data Leads, Engineers and QA teams to review designs, refine backlogs and ensure requirements are ready for delivery.
- Capture requirements relating to data migration, cleansing, provisioning, integration, reconciliation and cutover where relevant.
- Support SIT and other testing activities by defining data scenarios, expected outcomes and test-data requirements.
- Remain involved throughout design, build and testing, clarifying requirements, supporting defect triage and validating delivered outcomes.
- Coordinate across business, technical and supplier teams, ensuring dependencies, risks, assumptions and decisions are clearly documented.
