At Northumbrian Water, our customers are at the heart of everything we do. Every day, we provide essential water and wastewater services to millions of people, and we are committed to delivering reliable, affordable and sustainable services while supporting our communities and protecting the environment. By focusing on the outcomes that matter most to our customers, we are also working towards our ambition to be the National Leader in sustainable water and wastewater services.
We are building a dedicated team to create our PR29 business plan, which will set out what we will deliver for customers and the environment, and the investment needed to achieve it, between 2030 and 2035. We are recruiting a number of key roles to join this team, offering an exciting opportunity to work with colleagues across Northumbrian Water, influence important decisions and help develop an ambitious and compelling plan that delivers lasting value for our customers and communities.
About the role
We have new opportunities for Strategic Planning Data Analysts, who will play a key role in delivering solutions to strategic business challenges through data analytics, statistical modelling, simulation and optimisation.
Working within the Strategic Planning team, the role uses asset, operational and business data to forecast future performance, model investment scenarios, inform PR29 planning and provide evidence-based recommendations to decision makers.
You will work collaboratively and build positive relationships with stakeholders including operational, maintenance and planning teams to improve data quality, strengthen modelling approaches, transfer knowledge and encourage innovation in analytical decision making.
You will gather, transform, validate and prepare asset and operational data from multiple sources including SQL and geospatial databases for analysis and modelling. You will investigate and develop asset performance relationships using statistical analysis, technical knowledge and industry insight.
You will identify critical data needs, data quality issues and gaps, and influence the business to address them sustainably. You will develop, maintain and enhance asset performance, deterioration and forecasting models and apply optimisation techniques to identify the most efficient intervention and investment solutions. You will produce forecasts of asset condition and performance and recommend interventions to support service plans.
About you
If you have experience of solving problems using data mining techniques and statistical modelling to develop practical solutions, we would love to hear from you!
You will have excellent interpersonal and engagement skills and the ability to build positive relationships with stakeholders at varying levels, communicating clearly and with confidence.
You will be skilled in data analysis, modelling, machine learning and programming, with a good working knowledge of a statistical programming language.
We will be hosting an Open Evening session to learn more about PR29 roles at our Northumbria House office in Pity Me, Durham on Tuesday 10th November 2026. Please register your interest at: recruitment@nwl.co.uk
Please note this role will require a DBS to be completed prior to employment.
