The role
As a Housing Income Assistant, you will provide high quality administrative and customer support to the Housing Income Service. You will manage customer enquiries, maintain accurate case records, support income collection activities, assist with Universal Credit processes and help ensure customers receive the advice and support they need at the earliest opportunity. Success in the role will be measured through excellent customer service, accurate case management, effective administration, and contribution to service performance targets. This is a varied, evolving and challenging role in a fast-paced environment and it is envisaged the successful applicant could progress to an Income Officer role in the future.
The Successful Candidate
In addition to supporting day-to-day income management activities, you will work collaboratively with colleagues and partner agencies, assist with legal and governance processes, identify safeguarding concerns and contribute to service improvement. You'll be organised, resilient, and able to balance competing priorities while maintaining a customer-focused approach.
You will have strong administrative, communication and customer service skills, experience working in a busy office or customer support environment and confidence using ICT systems including Microsoft 365. An understanding of welfare benefits, housing services, or Universal Credit processes would be advantageous, although support and development opportunities will be available for candidates with transferable skills and the right attitude.

Our Carbon Net-Zero 2030 Action Plan
In 2019, North Tyneside Council declared a climate emergency. This declaration set a target to reduce the carbon footprint of the council's operations, and the borough, by 50% by 2023 and to align to the Government's net zero target of 2050.
