The role

What you'll be doing

You'll assess a wide range of property and legal-related cases to determine whether they fall within Nationwide's risk appetite, making well-reasoned decisions that protect both our customers and the Society. Working closely with our in-house Chartered Surveyors and external valuation suppliers, you'll investigate issues that may affect the value, suitability or marketability of a property used as lending security.

You'll manage queries from a variety of external stakeholders, including conveyancers and solicitors, providing clear, timely and professional responses to support the customer journey. You'll be expected to clearly articulate the rationale behind your decisions, ensuring consistency and adherence to policy.

As an experienced member of the team, you'll share your knowledge and expertise with colleagues across Property Risk and the wider business, providing coaching and guidance on property and legal matters. You'll also contribute to the continuous improvement of processes and help identify effective solutions to complex or unusual cases, working collaboratively with colleagues both in person and through Teams.

You'll receive comprehensive training and ongoing support to develop your expertise in property risk, along with a detailed understanding of the systems, policies and processes used to safeguard our customers and the Society.

About you

As a minimum you'll have:

  • A background in property valuations, mortgage underwriting, estate agency, conveyancing, property law or a related property profession

  • Proven capability in reviewing complex property or legal information and making decisions in line with policy, regulation or established procedures

  • The ability to identify, assess and document risks to support effective decision making

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with a track record of presenting technical or complex information to a range of stakeholders

  • Exposure to working directly with external parties such as customers, conveyancers, solicitors, surveyors, lenders or other professional stakeholders

  • The ability to manage multiple queries or cases simultaneously while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail

  • A track record of supporting, coaching or sharing technical knowledge with colleagues within a team environment

  • Evidence of identifying process improvements or contributing to operational efficiencies within a property, legal or risk-related environment

Our customer first behaviours put customers and members at the heart of how we work together. They are the set of behaviours that every colleague needs to display, in every role:

  • Feel what customers feel - We step into our customers' shoes, using their feedback and insights to empathise with them and to understand their needs, so that every decision we make starts and finishes with our customers in mind

  • Say it straight - We are brave in speaking out and saying what we think - we're honest and direct with good intent, openly sharing diverse perspectives to reach the best conclusions and using language everyone can understand

  • Push for better - We don't settle for mediocrity, we challenge the status quo, taking responsibility for continuous improvement and personal development

  • Get it done - We prioritise what will have the greatest impact, we are decisive, and we take accountability for delivering brilliant customer outcomes

You can strengthen your application by showing how our customer first behaviours resonate with you, and where you may have already demonstrated these.
