The role
What you'll be doing
In this role, you will investigate customer activity for potential money laundering and other financial crime risks, ensuring Nationwide meets its legal and regulatory obligations. You will review and analyse information from multiple systems and data sources to understand customer behaviour, assess risk, and determine whether activity is suspicious. Based on your findings, you will make clear, evidence-based decisions and produce high-quality, detailed investigative records, including submitting Suspicious Activity Reports to the National Crime Agency where required.
Alongside investigative casework, you will engage with customers and internal teams through inbound and outbound telephony, which forms a small but important part of the role. You will balance analytical work with effective communication to protect customers, clarify activity, and support wider teams while working to agreed service levels and process guidelines. Throughout this, you will contribute to continuous improvement, adapt to evolving financial crime threats, and maintain a consistent focus on protecting the business and delivering fair customer outcomes.
Careers Pathway Information
The Careers Pathway provides colleagues working within Protect with the opportunity to progress internally through a structured process. If you are considering this route, please note that there are set requirements you'll need to meet. To understand whether you fit these, speak with your manager for guidance and support.
If you meet the criteria and choose to pursue the Careers Pathway, you will not need to apply for the role via the website. Instead, the move will be handled internally through the pathway process.
About you
For this role, you will need:
- A naturally inquisitive and consistently thorough approach
- Very strong written and verbal communication skills with a high attention to detail
- The ability to produce extensive and intricate documentation of high quality
- Strong time management, prioritisation, and organisation skills with a problem-solving and solution-focused mindset
- The drive to embrace change and support continuous improvement
- To be an analytical thinker with the ability to assess data and identify patterns or anomalies
- Adaptability and be comfortable working in a fast-paced, changing environment
Our customer first behaviours put customers and members at the heart of how we work together. They are the set of behaviours that every colleague needs to display, in every role:

Push for better - We don't settle for mediocrity, we challenge the status quo, taking responsibility for continuous improvement and personal development
