The role
Summary
We're looking for a Senior Visitor Experience Officer to join our team in the Peak District. Working across the Longshaw Estate and High Peak Estates, you'll be part of the Visitor Experience team creating exciting visitor experiences, thoughtful visitor programmes and audience-led events. Your work will connect people with nature and the rich history of the area, support accessibility and raise the profile of vital conservation work.
Peak District is in a rural area with limited public transport. You'll be expected to travel across the portfolio and between different sites as part of your role and millage expenses will be covered. You'll be required to work weekends, especially during peak times. We support flexible working from any of our portfolio offices (Longshaw Estate, Edale).
Interview date: 11th November 2026
This role is required to work with vulnerable groups including children and any offer of employment or volunteering is subject to a satisfactory enhanced DBS check.
What it's like to work here
Working for the National Trust in the Peak District offers the opportunity to be part of a passionate and knowledgeable team caring for some of the UK's most varied and inspiring landscapes, including Ilam Park and Dovedale, Longshaw and the High Peak Estates. You'll use your skills to play a part in protecting and shaping the future of some of the most iconic places in the National Park. You'll report into the Visitor Experience Manager and work closely with a range of volunteers and staff.
What you'll be doing
As part of the Visitor Experience team, you'll be focused on developing and delivering projects, events and experiences for a wide range of visitors. You'll work collaboratively alongside colleagues in the Visitor Experience team and Welcome Team. Your high-quality programmes and high standards of presentation will make sure every visitor has a memorable experience.
Your day-to-day work will include, creating and running seasonal events, managing volunteer groups including guided walks volunteers, developing the visitor journey with a focus on increased access for all and supporting on site interpretation. We want to inspire people to connect, learn and care for nature and heritage through a range of engaging approaches.
Each day could look quite different: Sometimes you'll spend time in the High Peak running drop in events at key visitor locations, and other days you'll be working on key seasonal events such as Easter. Sometimes you may need to get stuck in and help wherever you're needed, to keep the whole place running smoothly. You'll be collaborative, self-motivated, adaptable, and comfortable working within shifting contexts and timelines.
You can view the full role profile for this role in the document attached. You don't need to have all the knowledge, skills and experience listed in the role profile; this is just to provide a full picture of what's possible in this role.

- experienced in devising and running activities to inspire and engage people
- skilled at communicating, and building good working relationships with people in your team and beyond
- experienced in interpreting and connecting a wide variety of people with nature and heritage
- well-organised, and able to work at pace and keep to time
- confident that you can deal with all kinds of people in all kinds of situations
- flexible, yet with a focus on always giving high standards of customer service
- used to working with and supervising volunteers
