The Opportunity

Our client is an established UK energy company with a long history of operating critical offshore gas production and onshore processing infrastructure.

With operations supporting the UK's energy supply for more than four decades, the business manages mature gas assets, processing facilities and associated infrastructure, with a strong focus on operational safety, asset integrity, environmental responsibility and cost efficiency.

Alongside its existing energy operations, the company is exploring opportunities to repurpose established infrastructure for future energy transition activities, including carbon capture and storage.

As part of its continued focus on operational performance and financial governance, the business is looking to appoint an experienced Senior Cost Controller to support cost management across its operational assets.

Working closely with asset management, finance, engineering, procurement, maintenance and external service providers, you will play a key role in ensuring accurate cost reporting, effective budget control and financial visibility across operational expenditure, maintenance programmes, inspections, modifications and capital activities.

This is a hands-on position combining cost control, financial analysis, forecasting, contractor management and procurement governance within an established energy operations environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare monthly accruals and OPEX forecasts, maintaining accurate cost trackers to support month-end financial reporting and closing activities.
  • Analyse financial data using SAP, including Value of Work Done (VOWD), working closely with Job Responsible Engineers (JREs) and Finance teams to ensure accurate reporting.
  • Oversee timewriting analysis across operational assets, ensuring accurate labour cost allocation and following up on missing or late timesheet submissions.
  • Review monthly contractor cost reports against approved business plans and budgets, identifying variances, financial risks, errors and potential inefficiencies.
  • Monitor contract expenditure and identify cost trends, opportunities for cost optimisation and areas of unnecessary spending.
  • Support the Procure-to-Pay (P2P) process, ensuring compliance with internal financial and procurement procedures.
  • Review Change Order requests and ensure Purchase Order (PO) increases are appropriately approved before work commences.
  • Review and maintain Purchase Orders, ensuring accurate coding, appropriate authorisation and timely closure of completed orders.
  • Provide assurance on newly raised Purchase Orders, verifying their accuracy and compliance with internal procurement processes.
  • Analyse rental equipment and hire expenditure to identify opportunities to reduce unnecessary costs.
  • Support Single Source Justification processes in collaboration with budget holders and Supply Chain teams.
  • Work closely with operational, engineering, commercial and finance stakeholders to improve cost visibility and financial performance.
  • Participate in internal meetings and supplier discussions, providing cost control insights and supporting financial governance.
  • Support additional cost control and financial management activities as required.

About You

  • Previous experience in Finance, Cost Control, Cost Engineering, Project Controls or Commercial Administration, ideally within the oil and gas sector.
  • Strong experience in budgeting, forecasting, cost reporting and financial analysis.
  • Good understanding of operational expenditure (OPEX), cost commitments, accruals and financial governance.
  • Practical experience working with Procure-to-Pay processes, Purchase Orders and contractor cost management.
  • Strong proficiency in SAP and Microsoft Excel, with the ability to analyse complex financial information and produce accurate reports.
  • Excellent numerical and analytical skills, with strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to identify cost trends, financial risks and opportunities for operational cost savings.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills, with the confidence to engage with technical, operational, financial and commercial stakeholders.
  • Self-motivated, proactive and comfortable managing responsibilities independently.
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced operational environment.
  • HNC in Business Management or a related discipline, or equivalent relevant professional experience.

Desirable Experience
