The role

Ready to take ownership of a growing operation where your financial expertise will directly influence business performance, while accelerating your Finance career through hands-on fast-tracked training from an experienced Commercial Finance Manager?

If you're an ambitious finance professional, who enjoys balancing strong financial controls with commercial partnering, and passionate for an opportunity to lead a team, along with supporting business growth, then we want to hear from you!

As Finance Manager, you'll lead a team of two accountants, while partnering closely with operations to drive business growth in our Transport business unit. Combining financial governance, SOX controls, commercial analysis and customer onboarding support, you'll play a key role in a fast-paced, expanding transport business, with a unique fast-track development programme and one-to-one mentoring designed to accelerate your career progression.

This is a full time, permanent position with contracted hours of 37.5 hours per week. Working Monday to Friday between the hours of 08:00 to 17:00. To gain the best fast-tracked training, you'll spend 2 days per week in Nottingham (NG9 6RY) and 1 day per week in Immingham (DN40 3DL) as a temporary phase of 9 to 12 months with flexibility with working from home also.

Pay, benefits and more

We're looking to offer a salary of up to £49,000 per annum, and 25 days annual leave (plus bank holidays). Your benefits package includes a company sponsored pension scheme, life assurance and access to our benefits platform, including retail discounts.

What you'll do on a typical day

  • Lead financial performance reporting and analysis, providing insightful trading commentary, KPI updates and recommendations to operations leaders, while driving budget accountability across the business
  • Partner with operational teams to support growth, contributing to customer onboarding, new business opportunities, commercial decision-making and stakeholder relationship management
  • Own financial governance and controls, ensuring compliance with SOX requirements through robust balance sheet reconciliations, P&L oversight, month-end activities, audit support and accurate financial reporting
  • Manage and develop the onsite finance team, setting objectives, reviewing performance, providing coaching and fostering a culture of continuous improvement and professional development
  • Drive operational and personal development, supporting both Nottingham and Immingham finance activities during the onboarding period, gaining exposure to customer reporting, invoicing, ledger close processes and wider commercial finance responsibilities

What you need to succeed at GXO

  • Qualified accountant (CIMA, ACA or ACCA) or a part-qualified professional committed to completing your studies and accelerating your development
  • Strong grounding in P&L, balance sheet and general ledger accounting
  • Experience of financial controls, compliance and audit processes, with exposure to SOX environments or a practice background as a huge plus!
  • Advanced Excel and data analysis skills, with the ability to interpret large datasets, identify trends and drive informed business decisions
  • Proven ability to build strong stakeholder relationships, influence at all levels and communicate financial information clearly to both finance and operational teams
