Interim Financial Controller

Finatal is partnering with an established, private equity-backed software business to appoint an Interim Financial Controller for a 12-month maternity cover.

The business generates £10m+ EBITDA and operates within specialist markets, including defence, policing and cyber security. Having evolved from a consultancy into a software-led business, it is now focused on further professionalising its finance function, enhancing reporting and driving operational efficiencies.

Reporting directly to the CFO, this is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Financial Controller to join a lean, high-performing finance team and play a key role in the next phase of the business's development.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the month-end close and financial reporting processes, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
• Support the ongoing professionalisation of the finance function following private equity investment.
• Drive finance transformation initiatives, including automation of billing processes and integration with CRM systems.
• Identify opportunities to streamline processes and improve operational efficiency.
• Work closely with the CFO and wider business to strengthen financial controls and reporting.
• Contribute to the implementation of AI-driven automation and other process improvements.

Candidate Requirements

• Proven experience operating as a Financial Controller or in a similar senior finance role.
• Strong technical accounting and month-end reporting experience.
• Experience within a software, SaaS or technology-led business is highly desirable.
• A track record of improving finance processes, implementing automation and driving transformation.
• Comfortable working within a lean finance function and reporting directly to the CFO.
• Previous experience in a private equity-backed environment would be advantageous.
• Available to start at short notice.
