The role

Maternity Cover: 12-month fixed term contract

Salary: £36,000 - £40,000 per annum dependent on experience

Faber and Faber is a leading independent publishing house in London. We publish prize-winning fiction, non-fiction, and children's books, as well as an unrivalled list of modern poets and playwrights. Among our list of writers, we have five Booker Prize winners and eleven Nobel Laureates and continue to seek out the most exciting and innovative writers at work today.

We are looking to recruit a Rights Manager for a period of up to 12 months, to handle a range of subrights across all lists.

What you will be doing...

In this role, you will handle sales of translation rights and other subrights in a number of territories - both direct and via co-agents - for titles across the Faber list.

You will provide projected rights figures to inform acquisitions of new projects and will work strategically with Rights and Editorial colleagues to secure rights in new titles.

You will manage key relationships as a senior point of contact with internal and external stakeholders, including publishers, co-agents, and literary scouts.

You will attend major international book fairs on behalf of Faber, and may undertake other travel as advised by the Rights Director.

You will work towards departmental financial targets, monitoring progress for your territories, and reporting on this to the Rights Director.

You will handle co-edition sales and work closely with production colleagues to manage schedules and increase income.

You will play a key role in the day-to-day management of department functions and systems (including Biblio systems) and of sales materials for book fairs and other trips.

Who we're looking for...

The ideal candidate will have several years of publishing experience in Rights, either within a publishing house or at a literary agency, and will thrive working within a busy team to secure excellent rights deals for Faber's books and authors. You should have a good knowledge of both UK and international publishing markets and trends, in both adult and children's literature. You will be highly skilled at judging the financial value of new books at the point of acquisition, and enjoy the strategic team work involved in negotiating deals and selling rights successfully. You'll enjoy and have the ability to build positive working relationships both internally and externally, with strong existing relationships already in place with publishers, co-agents and scouts. You'll thrive working in and supporting a team, while also having the confidence to work independently, and will be able to adapt to the demands of the role. Experience of handling co-editions would be an advantage.

If the above sounds like you, then we would love to receive your application.

To apply, please send a covering letter and CV to rightsmanagermat@faber.co.uk quoting reference FF.

Reporting to the Rights Director, this is a fixed-term, full-time position based in our London office in Farringdon. We offer a hybrid working model, with a minimum of three days working in the office per week.

The closing date for applications is Sunday 15th November 2026.

Faber has a staff of just over 140, based across our offices in Hatton Garden (London) and Harlow. We want all our staff to have the best possible, most positive and enjoyable experience while working at Faber.
