The role

BAM Infrastructure is seeking a highly skilled Lead Estimator to help shape our Energy Pre-Construction team. You will be working within our pre-construction team, working on bids and supporting our early contractor involvement (ECI) projects on a variety of competitive tenders, negotiated works and call-off contracts. This is an exceptional opportunity for a driven professional to play a pivotal role in the securing of new projects and programmes of work, ensuring we deliver value, adding best-in-class preconstruction and early contractor involvement whilst providing day-to-day guidance and support to others in the Energy England Estimating team.

For those looking to work on complex, nationally important projects with long-term purpose and impact, the energy sector offers a unique opportunity to help shape a more resilient, sustainable future while developing skills that will be critical for decades to come.

The role can be based out of any of our UK Offices (ideally one of those in London, SE England, or East England) but we operate a hybrid working model meaning we can accommodate those that are seeking a predominantly home-based role.

What you'll do

  • Lead and support in preparing accurate, well-considered cost estimates across various work types, contract forms, and risk categories.
  • Drive the Estimating input into the work-winning and governance process, with a strong understanding of the BAM Baseline.
  • Handle commercially sensitive tender information responsibly.
  • Collaborate closely with the bid and pre-construction teams, especially Planning Engineers and Bid Managers.
  • Interpret project scope through 2D/3D digital drawings, extracting key data and quantities.
  • Promote and apply digital construction tools and methodologies.
  • Contribute to tender procurement and pricing strategies.
  • Ensure receipt and evaluation of competent supply chain quotations, identifying risks and opportunities.
  • Lead estimate preparation, aligning with procurement and commercial strategies.
  • Coach others in using BAM's Estimating software.
  • Identify and compare construction solutions based on feasibility, safety, sustainability, cost, and risk.
  • Develop and maintain a priced Risk and Opportunity Register.
  • Present and finalise estimates and tender submissions.
  • Prepare clarification responses and support post-tender negotiations.
  • Oversee the smooth handover of estimating information to project teams and gather feedback.
  • Collect and share cost benchmarking and learning data.
  • Stay updated on construction innovations and support team development.
