  • A qualified, part-qualified or qualified-by-experience accountant with strong technical financial accounting experience.

  • Good understanding of Charity SORP and the upcoming changes to accounting standards, particularly surrounding lease accounting.

  • Experience of statutory accounting and financial reporting, ideally gained within a charity or similarly complex organisation.

Nice to have

  • Previous experience or an understanding of Museums and Galleries Exhibition Tax Relief (MGETR) would be highly advantageous.

  • Previous experience within the charity sector or an audit background with exposure to not-for-profit clients would be beneficial.

The role

Financial Accountant | £51,000 - £56,500 | Heritage Charity | FTC - 6 months | Flexible/Hybrid Working

This Financial Accountant position is an exciting opportunity to join a well-established heritage charity during a period of change within its financial accounting function. Working closely with the Senior Financial Accountant, this role will focus on supporting the implementation of upcoming Charity SORP changes, alongside assisting with Museums and Galleries Exhibition Tax Relief (MGETR) claims. The role will involve reviewing existing accounting treatments, supporting statutory reporting and working closely with the wider finance team to ensure changes are implemented accurately and efficiently. This would suit a hands-on accountant with strong technical knowledge across the charity sector who enjoys working through complex accounting requirements and delivering practical solutions.

What you'll do

  • Support the review and implementation of upcoming Charity SORP changes, ensuring financial reporting remains compliant with the latest accounting standards.

  • Review existing lease arrangements and support the implementation of revised accounting treatments across approximately 30 leases.

  • Assist with the preparation and submission of Museums and Galleries Exhibition Tax Relief (MGETR) claims, ensuring accurate supporting information and documentation.

  • Work closely with the Senior Financial Accountant to support statutory accounts preparation and the year-end audit process.

  • Review financial accounting processes and identify improvements to ensure accurate and efficient reporting.

  • Provide technical accounting support to the wider finance team, assisting with queries surrounding accounting standards and financial reporting.

  • Support the Financial Controller and wider finance team with additional financial accounting tasks where required.

How you'll work

This is a fantastic opportunity to join a respected heritage charity and play a key role in delivering important changes to its financial reporting processes. It would likely be 2-3 days in the office, potential for remote working but would not include the London Weighting Uplift. The role is initially on a fixed-term basis, and candidates should ideally be available immediately or at short notice, although some flexibility can be offered for the right person. Please apply now as candidates will be considered on an ongoing basis.

Person Specification

  • Strong Excel skills, with the ability to analyse and interpret large volumes of financial information.

  • Excellent organisational and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work through technical accounting requirements and implement practical solutions.

  • A proactive, hands-on and adaptable approach, with the ability to work independently and deliver against deadlines.
