The role

What if you could shape a career as unique as you?

At WSP, you can always find opportunities to grow and do what matters to you. Make the most of our global reach to discover new challenges and chances to work with diverse, talented individuals who will help you expand your horizons.

Do you want your health and safety expertise to shape how vital water infrastructure is designed and delivered? Our Water business is looking for a Health and Safety Business Partner. You'll be the trusted, practical voice that helps our teams plan and deliver work safely, responsibly and well.

About the role

You'll be the go-to health and safety partner for our Water leaders, project teams and service lines. You won't sit on the sidelines. You'll work closely with senior leaders, the wider Health, Safety, Environment and Quality team and our clients to raise standards and make safety part of how we work every day.

What you'll be doing

  • Giving clear, expert and practical health and safety advice to project teams and leaders across the Water business.
  • Getting out on site and spending time with project teams to offer support, share what you find and help them improve.
  • Carrying out construction design and management (CDM) audits and helping teams manage project risks well.
  • Leading incident reporting and investigations, and turning what we learn into lessons and alerts the wider business can act on.
  • Using Power BI to analyse safety data and spot trends and emerging risks, then reporting on them every month.
  • Planning and running briefings, presentations and training for your teams.
  • Helping to deliver our UK and Ireland health, safety, environment and quality strategy.

Who you'll work with

You'll build strong relationships with Operational Directors, service line leads and project leaders. You'll also work alongside our Senior Health and Safety Business Partner, safety in design, quality and environmental specialists, and with our clients.

What you'll bring

  • Strong knowledge of UK health and safety law, including the Health and Safety at Work Act and the CDM Regulations, plus an understanding of water sector requirements.
  • Experience in a health and safety advisory or business partner role within water, utilities, engineering, construction or infrastructure consultancy.
  • The confidence to influence senior leaders, project managers and designers, with advice that is practical, proportionate and commercially aware.
  • Hands-on experience of site checks, audits, inspections and managing serious risks.
  • Experience of investigating incidents, finding root causes and making sure the lessons are shared.
  • A good eye for data, with the ability to turn it into clear and useful insight.
  • Great communication skills, from running a briefing to giving constructive challenge.
  • Strong organisation skills, with the ability to work independently across several projects.
  • A recognised health and safety qualification such as the NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent. Chartered membership of IOSH (or working towards it) would be a bonus.

Imagine a better future for you and a better future for us all.

Work on landmark projects around the world and embrace opportunities to make an even bigger impact in the communities you care about. What if you could do the best work of your life and create a legacy for yourself?
