Working with software engineers and other technical colleagues, you will help keep the Libraries' primarily Linux-based digital services reliable, secure and straightforward to maintain.

You will maintain and support Linux-based applications and infrastructure, including deployment, configuration, upgrades, patching and troubleshooting. You will help operate and develop cloud and virtualised infrastructure, implement monitoring, logging and alerting, support containerised applications, and contribute to business continuity, backup, restoration and recovery testing. You will also troubleshoot complex technical problems and work with colleagues on architecture, deployment and improvements to existing services, with particular attention to security and reliability.

There are two full-time posts available - post 1 is permanent, and post 2 is fixed-term for 2 years. Please specify your post preference in your application.

About You

You will have demonstrable experience of administering and troubleshooting Linux-based systems and applications, including command-line tools, service configuration, patching and system security. You will have experience of automated provisioning, configuration management and deployment, together with a good understanding of relational databases, particularly PostgreSQL and/or MySQL.

You will be an excellent problem solver with experience of diagnosing technical issues across applications, operating systems and infrastructure. You will have experience of monitoring and supporting production systems and services, and an understanding of performance, reliability, availability, logging, alerting, backup and recovery. Experience of cloud platforms, containers, Infrastructure as Code, CI/CD, observability technologies or public-facing digital services would be advantageous.

Hiring process

You will be required to upload your CV and a supporting statement as part of your online application.
