The role
We are seeking a medically qualified Clinical Research Fellow to join the Cambridge BioMind Laboratory (Dr Mary-Ellen Lynall, Department of Psychiatry) and the Prediction and Learning Laboratory (Professor Rebecca Lawson, Department of Psychology). Funded by a major Wellcome award, the post offers hands-on clinical experience in experimental medicine alongside training in computational psychiatry and multi-omics, with a clear route to a PhD, subject to admission. 22.2 to 25.9 hours per week (3¿3.5 days/week), allowing time for continued clinical work. Salary will be pro rata according to the NHS scale for resident doctors (FTE will depend on pay point).
What you'll do
The postholder will contribute to an ambitious experimental medicine programme investigating the biological mechanisms of uncertainty processing and the stress response, and the relevance of these mechanisms to anxiety and mental health. They will play a central role in delivering an ethically approved, multi-arm study examining how uncertainty processing and stress responses are affected by uncertainty awareness training and by commonly used SSRI and SNRI medications. The study combines detailed cognitive measures with physiological assessments, blood sampling and high-dimensional omics profiling.
The postholder will provide medical support for the study and work closely with the wider research team to ensure that participant screening, study visits, pharmacological procedures and safety monitoring are conducted to a consistently high standard. Depending on their interests and experience, there will also be substantial scope to contribute to the analysis of cognitive, physiological and omics data and to help shape the scientific direction of the project.
