£39,959 to £48,117 a year

The role

Join the operational team in our busy ED, where you will help shape and deliver safe, effective services within a Major Trauma Centre and newly opened co-located Urgent Treatment Centre.

This is an exciting opportunity for an organised, resilient and forward thinking Service Manager who thrives in a fast paced environment and wants to make a difference to patient care and experience. Working alongside clinical, nursing and operational leaders, you will support patient flow, performance, workforce and day to day operational delivery, while helping the dept respond effectively to changing demand and emerging pressures.

The role offers broad exposure to urgent and emergency care, with opportunities to lead service improvement, use data to drive change, support and develop staff, and contribute to quality, governance and operational planning. You will take responsibility for delegated workstreams and deputise for the Ops Manager when required, providing an opportunity to further develop your leadership and experience.

We are looking for someone with strong leadership, communication, analytical and problem solving skills who can build positive relationships, manage competing priorities and remain effective in a dynamic environment. For the right candidate, this is a fantastic opportunity to join a supportive team and contribute to the continued development of emergency and urgent care.

This full time role supports service delivery with shifts during core hours 7am-6pm, Mon to Fri.

What you'll do

As Service Manager, you will provide visible day to day operational leadership across the Emergency Department, supporting safe patient flow, escalation and delivery of urgent and emergency care standards. You will monitor demand, capacity, ambulance handovers, length of stay, workforce and performance, using data to identify risks and improvement opportunities.

You will coordinate responses to operational pressures, staffing gaps and digital, estates or infrastructure issues, escalating significant concerns appropriately. Core responsibilities include leading delegated improvement workstreams, preparing performance reports and action plans, supporting incidents, complaints, audits and risk management, and ensuring actions are completed. You will manage designated staff, including workload allocation, recruitment, induction, appraisal, attendance, development and performance support, and deputise for the Operations Manager when required.

We are looking for an organised, resilient and proactive individual with strong leadership, communication, analytical and problem-solving skills. You will manage competing priorities, make sound decisions, remain calm under pressure and build effective relationships with clinical, nursing and operational colleagues.
