Skills

The role

The first step in a merchandising career

At The Cotswold Company, we make furniture to be lived with for a lifetime. Our pieces carry a 15-year guarantee, and we're a certified B Corp. Getting the right piece to the right place, at the right time, is what merchandising is all about.

This is a developmental role. You'll learn the craft from our Merchandising team and get hands-on experience across stock, data, suppliers and our showrooms. If you love numbers and want a career in merchandising, this is a good place to start.

What you'll be doing

Keeping our products available

  • Helping the Merchandiser forecast line by line
  • Raising purchase orders and transfer orders in NetSuite, moving stock between our UK warehouses, China and Vietnam
  • Keeping production plans and supplier trackers accurate, and spotting delays early
  • Investigating stock discrepancies and helping the Warehouse team book in containers
  • Making sure showroom display pieces arrive on time and takeaway stock stays topped up
  • Supporting new product launches through the critical path, and keeping back orders moving

Turning data into decisions

  • Helping prepare weekly and monthly trading packs, and range review packs
  • Running in-season analysis and keeping merchandising KPIs up to date
  • Maintaining NetSuite, demand planning and range plan data

Bringing teams together

  • Building good relationships with our suppliers
  • Working with Finance, the Warehouse and Customer Services to resolve queries quickly
  • Being a friendly first point of contact for our showroom, operations and marketing teams

What you'll bring

  • A real interest in UK furniture and homeware, and in building a career in merchandising
  • A head for numbers, with an analytical, detail-focused mindset
  • Confident use of Excel, Word and PowerPoint (at least intermediate)
  • GCSE English and Maths at grade 4/C or above
  • An organised, positive approach, and confidence talking to people at every level

Retail experience, or some knowledge of how merchandising works, would be lovely. It isn't essential, and we'll teach you.

Life at Cotswold
We look after our people, help them grow, and give them room to make an impact. We lead with care, inspire possibility, focus on impact and endure with purpose. Those values show up in how we work every day.

  • Colleague Discount of 25%, increasing to 50% after probation
  • 25 days + bank holidays, and an extra day off on your birthday
  • Pension scheme
  • Access to our health care benefits
  • Access to Employee Assistance Programme
  • A clear development path within Merchandising
