The role
The Vacancy
Please note that this role is being offered on a 3 year Fixed Term Contract basis.
About this Role
The Royal Academy of Arts is currently looking to appoint a Programme Manager to join our Learning & Public Programmes team.
Our Learning & Public Programme team supports creative learning experiences for a broad audience including adults, young people, teachers, schools and families. We deliver a range of activities and resources to enable visitors to explore their creativity, express ideas, learn new skills and develop an interest and confidence in looking at, discussing, and making art.
The Young Artists' Summer Show & Schools Programme Manager will primarily lead on the planning and delivery of the RA's Young Artists' Summer Show (YASS), a free, open-submission exhibition for students aged 4-18 studying in the UK. This role will also oversee our additional programmes with schools and teachers which currently includes The Primary Art School, visits to our temporary exhibitions and collections, and teaching resources.
About You
To be considered for this role, you have a passion for celebrating the creativity and talent of young people, alongside experience of working with schools and teachers to develop and deliver arts programmes.
With a good knowledge of the visual arts and UK education system, you will be highly organised, with excellent communication and IT skills and the ability to manage competing priorities.
The successful candidates will take a collaborative approach to working, as well as have experience of evaluating learning programmes, a good understanding of safeguarding and a commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion. Experience of overseeing the planning and delivery of exhibitions is not essential but highly desirable.
This role will be required to work occasional evenings and weekends.
The Company
The RA dates way back to 1768 when a group of artists and architects persuaded King George lll to help them to 'establish a society for promoting the Art of Design'. The original academy, in Pall Mall, was less than 10 meters long. Since then, there have been many changes, though the RA's core purpose of bringing art and design to a broad audience and championing art and artists still holds true.
Today we are a contemporary art organisation hosting internationally acclaimed exhibitions and through investment in employee training and development, with courses such as Unconscious Bias, LGBTQ+ Awareness, Bystander, and Mental Health First Aid training, we are striving to foster a safe space for everyone through positive action. We also have Employee Network Groups, Ways In Groups, and an Employee Council so every employee has a voice and a way to feel heard by colleagues through the CEO.
The RA is truly a unique place, both as an attraction to our visitors, but also as a workplace. Our people are at the heart of all we do, and we support a broad and inspiring mix of departments; from exhibitions, curators, art handlers, researchers, publishers, and digital to schools and education, visitor welcome, fundraisers, and corporate support.
