Oxford University Hospitals NHS Trust is looking to appoint a Head and Neck Surgical Oncology Fellow. This is a fixed term post for a duration of 12 months. The post holder should be post CCT. They must have experience of working within the NHS and be able to demonstrate a good command of the English language. Candidates are encouraged to visit the Department after short listing and should contact Mrs Lisa Fraser or Mr Rajeev Mathew on 01865226929.
This is an exciting opportunity to work in a high-volume prestigious head and neck centre, providing both secondary and tertiary level care. As a tertiary referral centre, the department manages major complex head and neck cases across Berkshire, Oxfordshire, Buckinghamshire, Swindon and Milton Keynes. This includes both malignant and complex benign work.
This is a 12-month fellowship, aimed at candidates approaching the end of their higher surgical training with the FRCS ORL-HNS or equivalent, or post-CCT. We welcome International candidates, who should make contact directly with the Fellowship organisers to discuss eligibility prior to application.
The successful candidate will have a central role in the management of head and neck patients both in clinic, on the ward, decision making in the MDT and operating. There are opportunities to become involved in research as well as NIHR studies.
Our goal is to extend the candidate’s surgical competency to that of a safe independent practitioner working within a head and neck multi-disciplinary team. On completion of the programme it is intended that the Fellow will be fully prepared to assume a Consultant position in a tertiary head and neck unit.
Surgical responsibility during the year will be tailored on a personalised basis depending on the candidate’s progress, with progressively increasing responsibility in major cases. Teaching of registrars will be an important component of the Fellowship, in preparation for assuming a future Consultant position.
The successful candidate will have an initial meeting with their educational supervisor, and a discussion regarding objectives. Regular informal trainer feedback and periodic, formal evaluation of progress will occur within the fellowship. It is expected the candidate maintains an operative log during the fellowship, as well as further evidence when available e.g. patient feedback, reflective practice.
You must have appropriate UK professional registration.
This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (Amendment) (England and Wales) Order 2020 and it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service.
