Job overview

We are looking for an enthusiastic Pharmacy Technician to join our Acute Medicine team.

Oxford Centre for Enablement, a purpose-built rehabilitation centre on the Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre (NOC) site in Oxford. The OCE houses a number of multidisciplinary inpatient and outpatient services aimed at supporting people recovering from, and living with, disabling conditions. OCE's inpatient service provides Level 1 and level 2 inpatient neurological rehabilitation for patients needing highly specialist rehabilitation from Oxfordshire and surrounding counties.

This role is mainly based at the Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre (NOC) which sits under the Acute Medicine and Rehabilitation directorate. You may also be on the John Radcliff site for duties within Acute Medicine.

The role is ideal for registered Pharmacy Technicians accredited in medicines management, or newly qualified technicians looking to start their ward-based career. Applicants must hold the NVQ Level 3 (QCF) or equivalent and be registered with the GPhC. You must also hold accreditation in medicines management or accuracy checking; candidates with only one will be appointed at Band 4 until completing both.

We also welcome applications from student technicians in training to qualify as an MMT and ACT. Pre-registration technicians will remain on their student salary until GPhC registration.

Main duties of the job

1. Provide and develop clinical pharmacy services provided to the Oxfordshire Centre of Enablement (OCE) including the multidisciplinary Oxford Spasticity Service according to Trust agreed standards including providing specialist advice on all aspects of medication prescribing, supply, administration and patients' counselling.

2. Work closely with the neuro-rehabilitation pharmacist and nursing teams to ensure and monitor safe and cost-effective medication practices are adhered to.

3. Work with the pharmacist to facilitate supported and self-administration of medicines by patients at the OCE as part of their rehabilitation

4. Medicines Management aims to maximise the efficient, safe and cost-effective use of medicines, focused around the needs of patients.

5. Work with the AMR directorate lead and other technicians in the team to ensure efficient and safe working practices with rotational pharmacists, medicines management technicians and ward- based assistants.

6. Work collaboratively with the OCE clinical unit team to support strategic developments of the service e.g. improved discharge processes, safe prescribing pathways, MDT training

7. Be an active member of the pharmacy department and of AMR Directorate team and ensure continuous two-way exchange of information to maintain high standards of medicines use within the Trust.
