An exciting opportunity has arisen to join North Tyneside's well-established AMHP team following the retirement of a long-serving member of the team. The role operates on a 12-hour shift pattern (07:50am to 8.10pm) across a seven-day service, with staff working three shifts per week. All team members have a fixed rota, supporting work-life balance and enabling greater flexibility in managing personal commitments.

You will be at the forefront of our mental health services, ensuring the delivery of high-quality, legally compliant Mental Health Act assessments and interventions. This role is vital in ensuring the safety, wellbeing, and rights of individuals experiencing mental health crises.

You will join a supportive and established team responsible for undertaking assessments under the Mental Health Act and contribute to effective multi-agency working across North Tyneside. Alongside your AMHP responsibilities, you will manage a small specialist caseload of approximately 3 to 5 individuals subject to Community Treatment Orders or social supervision arrangements for forensic patients.

For practitioners qualified as Best Interests Assessors (BIAs), there will also be an expectation to undertake Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards (DoLS) assessments as part of the Council's statutory responsibilities. If you are not qualified as a BIA there is an expectation you will complete this qualification.

Key Responsibilities:
• Assessment and Intervention: Conduct and oversee comprehensive Mental Health Act assessments under the Mental Health Act, ensuring appropriate and timely interventions.
• Legislation and Policy Compliance: Ensure all practices comply with relevant mental health legislation and organisational policies.
• Multi-Agency Collaboration: Work effectively with other health and social care professionals, agencies, and stakeholders to coordinate care and support for individuals.
• Crisis Management: Provide guidance in crisis situations, making informed decisions to safeguard individuals and the community.

The successful candidate must have a

Social Work qualification recognised by Social Work England.

Approved Mental Health Professional (AMHP) qualification and current AMHP approval/warrant to practise.

Ideally, also qualified as a Best Interests Assessor (BIA) or willingness to undertake the qualification.
