The role

Join a team that helps save and improve lives every day...

Are you an organised multi-tasker who enjoys building connections and making a difference behind the scenes? As the Administrator for the South West Regional Transfusion Committee (RTC), you'll play a key role in supporting work that helps ensure blood is used safely and effectively across hospitals in the region.

This is a regular part-time, hybrid role working 20 hours per week, with a combination of home and on-site working, rather than a casual or ad hoc position. Your designated work base will be NHSBT's Bristol Filton centre, and you will need to be based in the South West region.

Your working days and hours will be agreed with your line manager to meet the needs of the role, including the availability and clinical commitments of the RTC Chair and other key stakeholders. Some flexibility will be required to support meetings and events.

This varied and rewarding role involves coordinating meetings, projects and educational events that bring together healthcare professionals, patient representatives and partners to share best practice and improve patient outcomes.

Working as part of a friendly, professional team, you'll use your communication and organisational skills to keep everything running smoothly. You'll also have opportunities to work independently, take ownership of your tasks and make a valuable contribution to the committee's work.

What you'll do

You will provide administrative support to the Regional Transfusion Committee (RTC), including direct support to the RTC Chair, the Customer Services regional team and the Chairs of RTC subgroups. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Supporting the committee's activities and maintaining good relationships across the region by handling telephone and written enquiries professionally.
  • Arranging face-to-face and online meetings for the RTC, Regional Transfusion Team (RTT) and other working groups.
  • Preparing and distributing agendas, minutes, action logs and supporting papers to RTC members, the wider healthcare community, the NHSBT Hospital Liaison team and relevant national contacts.
  • Assisting with the organisation of educational events, including liaising with exhibitors, delegates and venue staff, and attending events to help ensure they run smoothly.
  • Undertaking specific projects as directed by the RTT, such as providing administrative support for pilot initiatives to develop new patient information.
  • Designing and distributing regional audits and surveys, analysing responses and reporting findings to Hospital Transfusion Committees and the RTC.
  • Tracking and recording income and expenditure against the RTC budget, preparing financial statements that include projected expenditure, and exercising budget or signatory authority within agreed limits.
  • Liaising with the relevant website team to keep the RTC's online information up to date.
  • Supporting the achievement and maintenance of NHSBT's corporate and quality objectives.
  • Developing a basic understanding of current transfusion issues to provide relevant information in response to enquiries.

You will occasionally need to travel away from your usual base to support meetings and events at other NHSBT centres or external venues, with some requiring overnight stays. Advance notice will be provided.
