The role

We're looking for a Community, Participation & Volunteering Co-ordinator to join our North East Wales Property Group and help more people connect with nature, beauty and history. Working across our places, you'll support communities, volunteers and partners to shape opportunities that are relevant, inclusive and meaningful.

This role is part of a team that leads on people's involvement across the organisation, ensuring that local communities and volunteers play an active role in helping us care for and share the places we look after. Through listening, relationship-building and co-design, you'll help create opportunities that inspire people to engage with, care for and benefit from our special places.

What you'll do

With ambitious plans for the future, both Erddig and Chirk Castle are striving for growth in community engagement, volunteering and participation. This role will play an important part in helping us reach new audiences, strengthen existing relationships and ensure more people have opportunities to experience and shape the nature, beauty and history in our care. Your duties will include:

  • Working with communities, volunteers and partners to co-design opportunities that connect people with nature, beauty and history.
  • Building and maintaining strong relationships with local organisations, community groups, schools and other partners.
  • Supporting the development and delivery of inclusive volunteering and participation programmes.
  • Helping identify and remove barriers that may prevent people from engaging with our places.
  • Gathering insight from communities and volunteers to inform future planning and decision-making.
  • Working collaboratively with property and specialist teams to embed community participation across the portfolio.
  • Supporting volunteer involvement, ensuring volunteers feel valued, supported and able to make a meaningful contribution.
  • Championing inclusive approaches that enable a wider range of people to engage with and influence our work.

Above all, you'll help ensure that local people have opportunities to engage with, contribute to and benefit from the nature, beauty and history of North East Wales, helping us build stronger connections between people and places for generations to come.

You can view the full role profile for this role in the document attached. You don't need to have all the knowledge, skills and experience listed in the role profile; this is just to provide a full picture of what's possible in this role.

How you'll work

Working Pattern: You'll work 22.5 hours per week. The working pattern is flexible and can be worked across three or more days. Occasional evening and weekend working will be required.

Who we're looking for

We'd love to hear from you if you have:

  • a strong understanding of community engagement and participatory practice
  • experience in increasing community participation and developing inclusive opportunities.
  • excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
  • the ability to coach and support others, and to work collaboratively across teams.
  • confidence in using data and insight to guide decisions.
  • knowledge of relevant legislation including safeguarding, GDPR, equality and volunteering.
  • a proactive, empathetic, and inclusive approach.

The package

The National Trust has the motto 'For everyone, for ever' at its heart. We're working hard to create an inclusive culture, where everyone feels they belong. It's important that our people reflect and represent the diversity of the communities and audiences we serve. We welcome and value difference, so when we say we're for everyone, we want everyone to be welcome in our teams too.
