The role

At MacIntyre School, your class is never bigger than six students. You'll have therapists, behaviour support specialists and a team of Learning Support Assistants alongside you. If you are looking for a teaching role where you can build deep, meaningful connections with your students and see the real impact of your work every single day, MacIntyre School in Wingrave has a place for you.

Located in a quiet village setting in rural Buckinghamshire, our 41-week residential and day school supports children and young people aged 10-19 with severe learning disabilities, autism, and complex sensory or communication needs. Our curriculum is creative and isn't built around subjects. It focuses on what matters most to each young person: communication, independence, wellbeing and their next steps in life.

What you'll do

  • Plan, teach and assess an individualised curriculum adapted to each student's learning style, communication needs and social development.
  • Lead, coach and mentor your classroom team of LSA's and Senior LSA's, and keep the classroom calm and purposeful.
  • work closely with therapists, residential colleagues and families so each young person gets a joined-up approach.
  • Support students with personal care where needed, always with dignity and respect.
  • Take part in the school's management on-call rota, which covers some evenings, weekends and bank holidays.

(Note: Experience with severe learning disabilities or autism is welcome, but mainstream teachers with a strong interest in adaptive teaching or learning through play are equally encouraged to apply. Some students require support with personal care.)

How you'll work

Location: MacIntyre School, Wingrave, Buckinghamshire

Hours & Contract: Full-time, Permanent (41-week residential/day school setting)

Regulatory Body: Ofsted (Rated 'Good')

Tired of teaching 30 pupils at once? Imagine teaching 6.

Who we're looking for

You don't need a SEND background. If you're a mainstream teacher who is interested in adaptive teaching, learning through play, or simply getting to know your students properly, we'll give you the training and support to make the move. Experienced SEND teachers are of course very welcome too.

Why teach here

  • Small class sizes. Up to six students, so you can plan for each individual rather than for the middle of the room.
  • A team around you. On-site therapists, behaviour support specialists, residential staff and families all work with you to support each young person across their whole day.
  • Facilities to teach creatively. An immersive experience room, Therapy Zone, outdoor learning spaces, a music and drama suite, and a sports hall with a bouldering wall.
  • Room to shape practice. We want teachers who will try new ideas and build on the school's high standards, not just follow a scheme of work.

Training, Professional Development & Progression

Starting a new role is a big step, and we recognise that everyone learns differently. From day one, you will receive a flexible induction combining interactive eLearning, face-to-face workshops, and hands-on mentoring to ensure you feel confident and supported through your probation.

Your growth does not stop there. Throughout your career at MacIntyre, you will have the continuous backing of your line manager alongside our specialist in-house Learning & Development, Quality, and HR teams.

How we support your career

  • Tailored Guidance: Structured personal development plans, regular 1:1 supervision sessions, and annual appraisals aligned with MacIntyre's career frameworks.
  • Core Frameworks: In-depth training in our signature person-centred delivery approaches, including The Commitments, DNA, and Great Interactions.
  • School Leadership & Practice: Space and encouragement to innovate working practices and build directly on the school's existing high standards.
  • Clear Progression: Genuine pathways to broaden your expertise, take on new responsibilities, or progress into senior roles over time.

Pay and Rewards

Our staff are at the heart of our success and we offer a range of benefits to thank and reward them:

  • A competitive salary with SEN allowance
  • Teacher Pension scheme
  • Full induction with ongoing support from the Education Leadership Team
  • Training and development with access to further professional development
  • MacIntyre Staff Savings Scheme
  • Employee Assistance Plan (EAP) to support your health and wellbeing
  • Health Cash Plan which provides money back on core health treatments such as: optical, dental, physiotherapy, chiropody (at reduced cost)
  • MacIntyre Sick Pay (qualifying period)
  • Life assurance scheme offering valuable benefits to your dependents
