The role
Are you a graduate or someone in the early stages of your HR career, looking for an opportunity to develop your skills and gain practical experience across a wide range of HR activities?
At MacIntyre, we're looking for an enthusiastic, organised and motivated individual to join our friendly and experienced HR Team at our Central Office in Milton Keynes.
This is a fantastic opportunity to build on your existing skills, develop your knowledge of employment law and employee relations, and gain valuable hands-on experience within a national charity that makes a real difference to people's lives.
As an HR Officer, you'll work alongside our experienced HR Advisors and Head of HR, supporting managers and employees across MacIntyre with a variety of people-related matters.
Your initial focus will be on employee wellbeing and absence management, helping managers support their teams effectively and promote a positive working environment.
You'll also gain experience across a broader range of HR activities, including:
- Supporting managers with employee wellbeing, sickness absence and other people-related matters.
- Providing first-line HR guidance, with support from experienced HR colleagues.
- Attending HR meetings, taking notes and preparing correspondence and documentation.
- Maintaining accurate employee records and updating our HR systems.
- Preparing and analysing HR information, including spreadsheets and reports.
- Supporting HR projects, policy reviews and the development of guidance for managers.
- Developing your understanding of employee relations, employment law and good people management practices.
As your knowledge and confidence grow, you'll have opportunities to become involved in more complex HR matters and take on greater responsibility.
About you
We're looking for someone who is genuinely interested in developing a career in HR and enjoys working with people.
You'll be approachable, professional and organised, with the confidence to communicate effectively and build positive working relationships with colleagues and managers at all levels.
Ideally, you'll bring
- A degree or equivalent relevant experience.
- Some previous experience in HR, recruitment, people administration or a similar role. We're also happy to consider graduates with strong transferable skills and a genuine interest in HR.
- A CIPD Level 3 or Level 5 qualification, or currently working towards one, would be an advantage but isn't essential.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Good organisational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities.
- Confidence using Microsoft Office, particularly Word and Excel.
- A willingness to learn, use your initiative and develop your professional knowledge.
- A thoughtful, supportive approach to dealing with people and sensitive situations.
Above all, we're looking for someone who shares MacIntyre's values and understands the importance of treating people fairly, respectfully and with compassion.
You'll also need to be a driver with your own transport, as the role involves occasional travel to other MacIntyre locations.
What we can offer you?
You'll be joining a welcoming and experienced HR Team where you'll have the opportunity to learn, contribute and develop your career.
We offer
- A salary of £28,634 per annum.
- Practical experience across a broad range of HR activities.
- Support and guidance from experienced HR professionals.
- Opportunities to develop your knowledge of employment law and employee relations.
- The opportunity to be considered for support towards a professional CIPD qualification, normally after your first year.
- The chance to work for a national charity supporting people with learning disabilities to live lives that make sense to them.
