Full Time / 37 Hours Per Week / Fixed Term for 12 Months
An exciting opportunity has arisen for Assistant Neighbourhood Housing Officers to join our Neighbourhood Housing Team in undertaking property, communal and estate inspections including fire safety work.
This role is key in identifying corrective actions necessary to be compliant with fire safety regulations informing management, tenants, and leaseholders as necessary.
For this role, you'll be working in line with government legislation, completing our statutory duty in carrying out fire inspections. It is an active role so if you are looking for something that involves being on your feet, then this is for you.
This is a full-time position, working 37 hours per week on a fixed term basis (over 12 months). You'll have flexibility in hybrid working being both office based, at St Marks office.
What you'll be doing
In this role you'll assist in the delivery of local tenancy and estate management service to tenants, leaseholders, and residents and will assist in the duties of the Building Responsible Officer.
You'll be responsible for maintaining the council's housing stock by ensuring fire safety compliance and you will follow a strict regime of routinely inspecting, accurately recording, and reporting on fire safety matters and assisting the Building Responsible Officer. This means carrying out tests on equipment such as emergency lighting, fire alarms, hose reels, dry and wet risers etc. This means you'll be required to attend Fire Risk Assessments and fire safety audits carried out by Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service, whilst effectively working with repairs, property, and technical services to ensure effective provision of service.
You'll visit people in their homes and other locations across the city and carry out inspections on estates and in communal areas of flats. This also means, you'll be responding to tenancy management service requests from tenants, leaseholders, and residents and using your IT skills, you'll update databases and maintain records, whilst assisting in enquiries from customers, elected members, and other statutory and voluntary organisations.
You'll be required to demonstrate previous experience of writing reports, making accurate written notes and accurate observations. You will have good customer care skills, be able to interview customers and have experience of working in customer facing service. Using your excellent communication skills, you will have the ability to resolve difficult situations with tact and diplomacy.
To succeed in this role, you must also be able to demonstrate literacy and numeracy enough to perform job tasks.
Using your organisation and prioritisation skills you'll successfully manage your own workload and work as part of a team.
As well as the satisfaction of helping to improve thousands of lives across Leicester, you can look forward to a work environment that encourages a healthy work/life balance. You'll enjoy generous annual leave, membership of the Local Government Pension Scheme and the option of flexible working. We'll also give you the chance to develop your skills and expertise with a variety of training and development opportunities. In addition, you can choose from a number of flexible benefits, including discounts on city buses and trains.
