The role

Information Governance Manager

What you'll do

Are you an experienced Information Governance professional looking for an opportunity to lead a high-performing service and influence information governance across one of the largest local authorities in the country?

Kent County Council is seeking an exceptional Information Governance Manager to lead the delivery and continuous improvement of our Information Governance service. This is a strategic leadership role, responsible for ensuring effective governance arrangements for information management, records management, transparency, information sharing and compliance with information-related legislation.

Working closely with senior leaders, including the Head of Information Governance, Consultation and Member Support, the Data Protection Officer, Senior Information Risk Owner and Caldicott Guardian, you will provide expert advice, shape policy and governance frameworks, lead service improvement initiatives and manage a skilled Information Governance team.

You will play a key role in overseeing the Council's compliance with legislation including the Freedom of Information Act, Environmental Information Regulations, UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act, whilst promoting a culture of accountability, transparency and continuous improvement across the organisation.

  • Significant experience leading an Information Governance service within a complex organisation.
  • Expert knowledge of Information Governance legislation and best practice.
  • Experience of advising senior managers and elected members.
  • Strong leadership, communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • The ability to manage complex cases, organisational risk and regulatory engagement.
  • A commitment to delivering high-quality, customer-focused services.

The successful candidate will also act as the Council's Deputy Data Protection Officer, providing support to the statutory Data Protection Officer and gaining exposure to strategic data protection leadership across the organisation. Subject to performance, capability and organisational requirements, there may be opportunities for progression and development into a future Data Protection Officer role.

At Kent County Council, you'll have the opportunity to make a significant impact on how information is governed and protected across a diverse and complex organisation, while leading a dedicated team and helping shape the future of the Information Governance service.

Join us and help ensure that information is managed responsibly, transparently and effectively for the benefit of Kent's residents and communities.
