The role

The Fleming Initiative is a new exciting partnership between, led by Imperial College London and Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust, which aims to tackle antimicrobial resistance (AMR) through a people-centred and convergence science approach. It offers an innovative approach to the challenge of AMR - combining research, behaviour change, public engagement, and policy.

Following significant funding from our partners to support this ambition, we are seeking to appoint an experienced Communications Manager to help translate our international research, data and evidence into meaningful policy and public engagement; because AMR is not just a scientific challenge; it is also a policy, behavioural and societal one.

What you'll do

Reporting to the Fleming Initiative's Chief Operating Officer and working closely with the Fleming Initiative Communications and Events Officer and wider team:

  • You will ensure alignment between programme communications and the Initiative's broader communications, engagement and convening activities.
  • You will lead communications and engagement activities that showcase our programme's research, impact and insights, helping to translate complex research into compelling narratives, communicate progress and achievements, and strengthen engagement with researchers, policymakers, funders, healthcare professionals and the public.
  • You will develop content, campaigns and events that demonstrate the value and impact of these partnerships and contribute to the broader conversation around AMR
  • Working closely with academic, policy and external partners, you will coordinate the programme management of comms activities, including project planning and governance, monitoring progress against key milestones, and facilitating collaboration across a diverse network of stakeholders.
  • You will help ensure comms activities for these programmes operate effectively and deliver against their respective objectives, while maintaining strong relationships across partner organisations.
  • While your primary focus will be leading the comms activities related to our programmatic research, you will also contribute to a coordinated, strategic approach across the Initiative, identifying opportunities to amplify research, events, partnerships and impact through shared communications and stakeholder engagement activities.

What we are looking for

  • As a proactive and motivated self-starter, you will be comfortable managing multiple priorities and working both independently and collaboratively. As a skilled communicator and programme coordinator, you will bring fresh ideas, strong organisational capability and a passion for global health, helping to strengthen the impact, visibility and influence of the Fleming Initiative.
  • You must have outstanding communication and organisational skills, with the ability to build and sustain strong collaborative relationships across large, complex organisations. With a flair for writing, a creative mindset and exceptional attention to detail, you will be able to translate complex scientific concepts into accessible and engaging communications for a wide range of audiences.

What we can offer you

  • The opportunity to work in a high profile and exciting area at a world-leading institution and to be part of our mission to tackle the global threat of AMR
  • A multidisciplinary, diverse, inclusive and collaborative work culture with various staff networks and resources to support your personal and professional wellbeing.
