We are committed to fostering diverse teams where everybody can bring their authentic selves to work and feel that they belong. If you want to work for a Council where everybody is encouraged to meet their full potential and make a difference in our neighbourhoods, we would love to hear from you!

Your role

In this role you will provide high quality training, advice and guidance on all matters relating to the school and academy governance.

You will be responsible for the day to day operations of the ad hoc element of the Clerking Service, and will be the nominated clerk for a small allocation of schools/academies.

You will also be responsible for the organisation and delivery of the Governor training programme.

You will be required to provide accurate advice and guidance to Chairs of Governors/Trustees and Headteachers about all aspects of panels including the more complex issues that arise.

About you

To fulfil this role, you will need to have an understanding of the regulatory framework that underpins school and academy governance.

You will need to have excellent planning and organisational skills, the ability to remain calm and work under pressure, a "can do" approach and a commitment to delivering a high quality service to our schools and academies.

You will need to be able to travel across Wigan and neighbouring boroughs to different schools, and be flexible to deliver training in the evenings, both on-line and in person.

About us

Governor Services is part of the Standards and Learning Team in Wigan Council. Governance is central to the success of a school. The Governing Board's role is to hold the strategic leaders of the school to account for standards in our schools, and the Governor Services Team plays a pivotal role in this by providing professional clerking, advice, guidance, and administrative support to the Board for all matters relating to school and academy governance.

Our service sits within the Children and Young People's Directorate, and we contribute to the Excellence in Education Strategic Plan.

The Progress with Unity plan is a place movement for change for the next decade, bringing a new era for Wigan Borough. It draws on the strengths of our individual organisations, recognising that together we can achieve much more for our communities by delivering on our 2 place missions; create fair opportunities for all children, families, residents and businesses and make our towns and neighbourhoods flourish for those who live and work in them.

Here at Wigan, we are proud to support flexible working patterns, when the service can accommodate this. We also take a blended approach to where we work, depending on the work we do. This may include working from home, the office, or the community. We like to thank our employees for their hard work and commitment by giving them the opportunity to access a range of exclusive rewards and benefits click here to find out more about working for #TeamWigan.
