We're on a journey to build a workforce reflective of our Borough.

We are committed to fostering diverse teams where everybody can bring their authentic selves to work and feel that they belong. If you want to work for a Council where everybody is encouraged to meet their full potential and make a difference in our neighbourhoods, we would love to hear from you!

Your role

You will play a leading role in improving the health and wellbeing of Wigan Borough residents through prevention, digital innovation and service transformation. Working across Public Health, the NHS, voluntary sector and commissioned providers, you will lead initiatives that make it easier for residents to access support, improve outcomes and reduce health inequalities.

You will drive the development of a modern, resident-focused prevention offer, combining digital solutions, service redesign and behavioural insight to improve access to services such as smoking cessation, healthy weight, alcohol support, NHS Health Checks and wider wellbeing programmes. This is an exciting opportunity to shape how prevention services are delivered and experienced across the borough.

About you

We are looking for an experienced transformation professional who combines strategic thinking with a passion for improving population health and wellbeing. You will have a strong track record of leading complex change programmes, develop partnerships and delivering measurable improvements for communities.

You will be comfortable working across organisational boundaries, bringing together colleagues from local government, health services, primary care and the voluntary sector around a shared vision. You will have excellent analytical, facilitation and project management skills, alongside the ability to translate complex challenges into practical solutions that improve services and outcomes.

Most importantly, you will be motivated by making a difference to residents' lives, championing prevention, reducing inequalities and ensuring services are designed around the needs of people and communities.

About us

Wigan Council has a long-standing commitment to prevention, community-led approaches and improving the health and wellbeing of our residents. As part of our ambitious plans for the borough, we are investing in new approaches that bring together digital innovation, public health expertise and partnership working to help people live healthier lives.

You will join a collaborative and forward-thinking organisation that values creativity, continuous improvement and resident-centred design. We offer flexible and hybrid working arrangements, investment in professional development and the opportunity to lead work that has a real impact on reducing inequalities and improving outcomes across our communities.

This role offers the chance to be at the forefront of shaping a more integrated, accessible and effective prevention system for Wigan Borough, helping residents access the right support at the right time, in the right way.

The Progress with Unity plan is a place movement for change for the next decade, bringing a new era for Wigan Borough. It draws on the strengths of our individual organisations, recognising that together we can achieve much more for our communities by delivering on our 2 place missions; create fair opportunities for all children, families, residents and businesses and make our towns and neighbourhoods flourish for those who live and work in them.

Here at Wigan, we are proud to support flexible working patterns, when the service can accommodate this. We also take a blended approach to where we work, depending on the work we do. This may include working from home, the office, or the community. We like to thank our employees for their hard work and commitment by giving them the opportunity to access a range of exclusive rewards and benefits click here to find out more about working for #TeamWigan.
