About the FCA and team
We regulate financial services firms in the UK, to keep financial markets fair, thriving and effective. By joining us, you'll play a key part in protecting consumers, driving economic growth and shaping the future of financial services in the UK.
SPC oversees firms and individuals (supervision), creates and reviews the rules by which they operate (policy) and identifies and remedies ineffective competition in markets (competition). As part of the Incident Response and Exercising team, you'll play a key role in coordinating the FCA's supervisory response to operational incidents affecting regulated firms, helping to protect consumers, maintain market confidence and support financial sector resilience.
Working within a collaborative and close-knit team, you'll partner with colleagues across the FCA and external stakeholders, including UK authorities, to minimise disruption and drive coordinated outcomes. You'll contribute to and lead industry exercises, engage in domestic and international forums and support governance activities that boost operational resilience across the sector. You'll also help shape the FCA's understanding of emerging technologies, including AI and their impact on the evolving operational resilience landscape.
Role responsibilities
- Lead the FCA's response to operational resilience incidents and cyber-attacks, helping to protect consumers, maintain market confidence and support the resilience of the UK financial system
- Coordinate timely incident triage and supervisory responses, enabling swift action to minimise disruption and potential consumer harm
- Work with other supervisory colleagues to develop effective incident response strategies that improve outcomes during critical events, including engaging with firms that are impacted by them
- Shape the FCA's understanding of emerging technology risks, including AI, ensuring the organisation is prepared for evolving operational resilience challenges
- Coordinate alongside UK financial authorities during major incidents, contributing to a unified response where significant consumer or market impacts are at stake
- Empower supervision teams with specialist operational resilience expertise, enhancing their ability to assess risks, motivate firms and build up sector resilience
- Deliver critical insight, reporting and management information to senior leaders, supporting informed decision-making during high-profile incidents
- Champion best practice across the FCA as a trusted subject matter expert, providing guidance on incident reporting and operational resilience, building capability across teams and helping to create a safer, more resilient financial sector for millions of UK consumers
