Enjoy diagnosing faults, solving mechanical problems and getting vehicles safely back on the road? This could be a great next move.
We're looking for an experienced HGV Technician to join Dennis Eagle in Manchester, working on specialist refuse collection and commercial vehicles.
Whether you know the role as an HGV Technician, HGV Mechanic, Commercial Vehicle Technician or Heavy Vehicle Technician, what matters to us is your experience maintaining and repairing commercial vehicles and your ability to find and fix faults effectively.
You'll work across vehicle servicing, maintenance, diagnostics and repairs, including chassis and mounted equipment, while helping to ensure vehicles are safe, reliable and ready to do their job.
🔧 What you'll be doing
- Carrying out HGV and commercial vehicle servicing, maintenance and repairs
- Diagnosing faults across chassis and mounted equipment
- Using your mechanical, electrical and hydraulic fault-finding skills
- Preparing commercial vehicles for MOT inspection
- Carrying out quality checks and necessary body and chassis repairs
- Completing scheduled vehicle maintenance
- Recording work accurately using workshop systems
- Road testing vehicles where required and appropriately licensed
- Working at our workshop and, when needed, customer premises
- Keeping safety, quality and customer service at the heart of your work
🛠️ What we're looking for
You'll need:
- Experience in commercial vehicle repair and servicing
- Previous experience in a similar HGV, heavy vehicle or commercial vehicle role
- A Level 3 qualification in Heavy Vehicle Service and Maintenance, such as NVQ, City & Guilds or equivalent
- Diagnostic and fault-finding skills
- An understanding of vehicle electronics and hydraulics
- The ability to read and understand wiring diagrams
- Good problem-solving and communication skills
- A practical approach to working safely and delivering quality repairs
Experience maintaining refuse collection vehicles (RCVs) or working with electric commercial vehicles would be useful, but isn't essential.
An HGV Class 2 licence, IRTEC accreditation or experience with Volvo Tech Tool or Allison transmission would also be beneficial rather than essential.
You don't need to tick every desirable box. If you have a solid commercial vehicle background and the core technical skills we're looking for, we'd still encourage you to apply.
