The role

This is an excellent opportunity to join Keoghs' well respected Healthcare Division, developing specialist expertise in healthcare and clinical negligence claims on behalf of insurers, healthcare providers and private medical organisations.

Working within a supportive and collaborative team, you will manage, under supervision, a caseload of aesthetic treatment claims alongside a variety of healthcare litigation and pre-litigation matters valued up to £50,000. You'll receive ongoing mentoring, technical guidance and structured development to support your progression within healthcare litigation.

The role offers exposure to the full lifecycle of defendant healthcare claims, from initial instruction through to resolution, including litigated matters. As your experience grows, you'll take increasing responsibility for handling cases and delivering practical, commercially focused solutions for clients.

This position is ideally suited to someone with claims handling or legal experience who is looking to build a career in healthcare litigation, or a junior litigator seeking to broaden their experience within defendant clinical negligence and healthcare claims.

The successful candidate will demonstrate strong analytical and organisational skills, excellent attention to detail, and the ability to manage a varied caseload while delivering clear, practical advice under appropriate supervision.

What you'll do

  • Managing healthcare and aesthetic treatment claims from instruction through to resolution
  • Liaising with clients, insurers, courts, counsel, experts, witnesses and other parties
  • Drafting court documentation, correspondence and witness statements
  • Filing and serving court documents in accordance with procedural requirements
  • Obtaining and reviewing medical records, evidence and supporting documentation
  • Progressing claims through effective investigation and negotiation
  • Chasing outstanding instructions and ensuring key deadlines are met
  • Preparing hearing and trial bundles
  • Instructing counsel and assisting with litigation strategy where required
  • Maintaining accurate case records and updating the case management system
  • Supporting senior file handlers with complex healthcare litigation matters
  • Ensuring compliance with regulatory and professional conduct requirements

Skills & Expertise

  • Alternatively, an appropriate legal qualification combined with relevant experience will be considered
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to prioritise a busy and varied workload
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
  • Experience negotiating with third parties and obtaining information to progress claims
  • Ability to work effectively to deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong attention to detail and analytical capability
  • IT proficient, with experience using claims or case management systems
  • Confident handling enquiries from insurers, brokers, clients and other stakeholders
