The role

Are you passionate about improving people's health and wellbeing, reducing inequalities and helping communities to thrive?

We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated Public Health Officer - Psychosocial Wellbeing to join our Public Health Team and help shape and deliver an ambitious programme of work across Cumberland.

Psychosocial wellbeing is an important and growing area of our public health work. This permanent role will provide dedicated capacity to develop and coordinate programmes addressing issues including suicide prevention, boys' and men's health, trauma-informed practice, emotional and social wellbeing and the wider factors that influence people's mental health and resilience.

Working across organisational boundaries, you will bring together colleagues from across the Council, NHS, voluntary and community sector, local communities and other partners to develop evidence-informed approaches that improve wellbeing, strengthen resilience and reduce health inequalities.

You will have the opportunity not simply to support existing programmes, but to help shape this developing area of public health practice in Cumberland, translating evidence and insight into practical action.

The role will have a strong focus on prevention and early intervention, helping us identify and respond to psychosocial needs earlier and contributing to the Council's wider ambition to prevent or delay escalation of need and support sustainable public services.

What you'll do

As Public Health Officer - Psychosocial Wellbeing, you will:

  • Coordinate specific programmes of work across Cumberland's psychosocial wellbeing agenda.
  • Support the development and implementation of work relating to suicide prevention, public mental health, trauma-aware and informed practice, and wider psychosocial wellbeing.
  • Work collaboratively with Council services, NHS organisations, voluntary and community sector partners and local communities to identify opportunities for prevention, early intervention and service improvement.
  • Gather, analyse and interpret evidence, population health intelligence and best practice to inform programme development and decision-making.
  • Support needs assessment and the development, implementation and evaluation of evidence-informed interventions.
  • Develop project plans, reports, briefings and presentations for senior leaders, elected members and partnership groups.
  • Facilitate workshops, engagement and co-production activity with professionals, communities and people with lived experience.
  • Support effective programme governance and monitor progress and outcomes.
  • Contribute to approaches that address health inequalities and the wider determinants of health.
  • Help embed prevention and psychosocial wellbeing across the Council and wider health and care system.
