The role

The Prime Minister's Office enables the Prime Minister to deliver the Government's overall priorities and to communicate the Government's policies to Parliament, the public and international audiences. From the Policy Unit, Press Office, Switchboard and Custodians to the Events & Visits team and the Private Office support; the diverse No.10 team draws on varied expertise from across the Civil Service and beyond. The teams come together to deliver excellent service to the Prime Minister while also making No.10 a great place to work.

No.10 North is focused on delivering good growth in every postcode and ensuring that everyone has the opportunity to thrive, no matter where they live. No.10 North is the Prime Minister's centre for devolution, place and local growth. Based in Manchester and working across the United Kingdom, it connects places directly to the centre of government. It brings together local leaders, HM Treasury and other government departments to resolve problems that no single organisation can solve alone.

The Strategy and PMO team provides the leadership, governance and coordination backbone of No.10 North. The team supports senior leaders, drives strategic planning, oversees programme delivery and ensures the organisation remains focused on its priorities. Working across governance, performance, business management, people and private office functions, the team coordinates activity across No.10 North and the wider Office of the Prime Minister and Cabinet, helping to turn ambitious priorities into effective delivery.

We are seeking outstanding individuals to work in the Strategy and PMO function at the heart of No.10 North. These are high-profile roles supporting senior leaders to translate strategic priorities into deliverable plans, monitor progress, identify emerging risks and ensure the organisation operates with strong governance and delivery discipline.

Postholders will work directly with Directors, Deputy Directors and senior partners across government to provide a clear line of sight from Prime Ministerial priorities through to delivery.

We are looking for individuals who are curious, adaptable and delivery focused. You will be comfortable moving between strategic thinking and practical implementation, bringing structure to ambiguity and helping senior leaders maintain a clear view of progress and performance.

You will enjoy working at the centre of an organisation, building relationships across teams, solving problems and ensuring that priorities are translated into effective action. You will be equally comfortable preparing a briefing for a senior leader, coordinating a governance meeting, analysing delivery data or helping teams overcome barriers to delivery.

What you'll do

  • Working closely with policy leads, develop and maintain an integrated No.10 North delivery plan covering policy, engagement, organisational development and major programmes.
  • Support senior leaders to translate strategic objectives into clear milestones, deliverables and performance measures.
  • Coordinate activity across multiple teams to ensure delivery remains aligned to organisational priorities.
  • Lead portfolio-level planning exercises and support prioritisation decisions.
  • Design and manage governance arrangements across No.10 North.
  • Establish effective boards, decision forums and reporting mechanisms.
  • Ensure high-quality papers, briefing material and dashboards are available for senior leadership discussions.
  • Maintain oversight of key decisions, actions and commitments.
  • Develop meaningful performance reporting for senior leaders and ministers.
  • Produce concise delivery assessments that identify emerging opportunities and risks.
  • Lead development of delivery dashboards and management information.
  • Provide analysis and challenge to improve organisational performance.
  • Establish and maintain portfolio-wide risk, issue, and dependency management processes.
  • Support teams in identifying mitigation strategies and recovery plans.
  • Escalate significant delivery risks and provide assurance on management actions.
  • Work with leaders to improve planning, governance, and reporting capability across No.10 North.
  • Develop standard methodologies, templates, and tools.
  • Promote a culture of continuous improvement and delivery excellence.
  • Support implementation of organisational change and operating model developments.
  • Build strong relationships across No.10, the Office for the Prime Minister and Cabinet, HM Treasury, MHCLG and partner organisations.
  • Act as a trusted adviser to senior stakeholders on programme management, governance, and delivery matters.
  • Coordinate requests for information and reporting from central government partners.
